Quote for boarding 2 artex ceilings and skimming

Been given a quote of £860 for boarding 2 artex ceilings and then skim. Rooms are approx 3.54mx3.30m and 4.85mx3.54. One room has no furniture the other is pretty empty.

It will take 2 days. I'm in the southeast. Is this quote fair?

is there nothing to take down . (boarding over the artex) or already down ?
 hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world
  • Materials will be about £100, what does a plasterer charge per day in the south east? I'd say 2 days work for 2 guys probably, the plastering and the boarding will each take a day.

They said that they would just board over the artex then skim. So no nothing to take down

    Materials will be about £100

That would be £100 per room for materials.

Two people working over two days (assuming similar rates to my area) at £150-£160 per man/day - £860 for the two rooms doesn't sound too far off the mark.

Thankfully I dont live in the SE!

I had two ceilings, similar size, boarded direct onto Artex & skimmed for £190. One man, One day.

    Midlands area

To be fair he was plastering my entire house & this was an addition due to Artex in the rooms.
  • Its two days, materials and labour. £860 is very fair.

Rubbish!. I had two similar size ceilings over boarded direct onto the existing ceiling (artex) & skimmed for £190. (in one day by one guy).

I had the two rooms the ceilings belonged to plastered for less than what the OP is quoted for ceilings.

All this for £190 NOT £860!! Done by one guy in one day. The materials consist of half a dozen boards @ £50 plus his daily rate.

Its astonishing how some people can pluck a random £ figure out of thin air, double it by saying it will take two men etc etc!

  • I think 4 man days is excessive. One man should be able to board an averaged size ceiling and skim it in a day. Two men should get it done in a day. I wouldn't pay more than £500.
