Vet Bills

Hello,

How long does a vet practice have to send you an invoice?

Sadly my dog passed away over a year ago and I sent the specialist practice who was treating him a letter telling them about it and asked them to send me a bill for what I owed them after they had claimed what they could from my insurance. I have also rang them twice to ask for this bill as it is in excess of £2,500.00 so not a small amount but they still havent sent me an invoice?

How long do they have legally to send me an invoice? Should I expect this to drop on the mat at any point in the future? I know I have an obligation to pay it, and have been saving every penny I can to pay this but feel like why should I keep chasing them?

Any information would be much appreciated. :(

    Six years (five in Scotland)!

After that you still technically owe them the money but there is no legal way of enforcing payment.
  • Thanks very much - maybe I should give them another call! Dont fancy waiting another five years to see if they do or dont invoice me...

Could they have claimed the whole amount from the insurance company?

If you contact them ask to speak to the practice manager so you are dealing with a specific person rather than someone who answers the phone.

Ask then how much is outstanding on your account, rather than just ask them to send you a bill. That way they have to look up your record.
