microsoft edge playing hide and seek

I keep having pop-ups etc and cannot access certain sites, even on mse, I get them and screen freezes. since I have scanned with adblock and malware , I can now at least access mse with i.e.
however, Microsoft edge appears when I click on its icon but then disappears straight away,
I can just use i.e. , just that I had lot of bookmarks and favourites saved on m edge which I now cannot access.
any advice appreciated

I have just re-started laptop and it seems to be ok now.

I'm not sure why you would want to use Edge anyway, Chrome or Firefox would be my choice.0
