Car Insurance Incident recorded costing £80 extra

Last year a refuse lorry reversed into my son's car when it was parked in the road. The council accepted all blame and paid for the repairs. I was the last person to drive the car and it was recorded as such. I have just tried to renew my insurance and have been told that as I have an incident against my name the policy will cost £80 extra. Has anyone had this experience? Is there anything I can do to have this incident removed. I have 30 years without an accident and find this absolutely ridiculous.
Thanks to all that take time to post on here

Insurance is based on statistics !
Statistically you are now more likely to have another incident
The incident happened and it was not your fault but statistics say you are now more of a risk.
  • Some insurers put your premium up for a non-fault incident, some don't. Some insurers will put your premium up just because they want to increase their premiums, some won't.

Nothing you can do but get quotes with other insurers that won't penalise you for a non-fault claim.

I'd certainly check with them whether the incident is still open or not. Even if your side has been resolved there could still be on-going issues between the insurers and liability won't be settled until the claim is. If it's still open, it will be classed as a fault claim until it is fully resolved.

You should have disclosed the incident when renewing, and the £80 you have been charged may include a fee for them making a change to your details

You will need to disclose this whenever you apply for quotes - as you have discovered they will discover if you don't, and would allow an insurer to vour policy.

You say this is "ridiculous", but had this happened to you when you parked your own car the outcome would have been the same - it "blights" your clean record

(Make sure your son knows to disclose this against your history when renewing his insurance)
