    Because they are/were hoping to complete on Monday? If it's simultaneous (or near-simultaneous) exchange and completion then you've no choice but to request the funds before exchange.
  • If the sellere'smortgage lender having been taking legal against the seller to repossess the house then there will be legal costs involved which the lewnder will add to the amount owed. This may mean that it will take longer than normal for the lender to provide a settlement figure to the seller's solicitors.

    This happened to my parents In law some 60 years ago. All was fine, mortgage company took what they were owed, sale completed - except that the mortgage was in the name of the husband, who failed to tell his wife that the house had been sold. The first she knew was when parents in law turned up with a moving van full of their furniture plus two tinies. Hubby ended up in jail for fraud, but I never found out what happened to the poor wife.

    Richard was typing too fast. Try:

    "If the seller's mortgage lender has been taking legal action against the seller to repossess the house then there will be legal costs involved which the lender will add to the amount owed. "
