When should I cancel my Virgin direct debit

Hi, apologies if this is not posted in the right place, was hoping someone who has cancelled with Virgin media might be able to help.
Our Virgin cancellation is due to take effect on the 29th September. Our last billing period was 25 Aug - 24 Sept and this was paid for on the 30th August.
Please would anyone know if Virgin would only take pro-rata 25-29 September (5 days) on the next direct debit and would this also be pro rata on the line rental. I don`t want to pay for a full month and then have to grovel for funds to be returned.
I was thinking about cancelling the direct debit and then just paying when they send me a bill. Never had to cancel anything like this before so not sure how it works.
As always am grateful for any advice or help. Thank you

You could always try asking Virgin, you know, the people with access to your account and knowledge of their billing cycles.0

I thought it was generally a bad idea to cancel DD's. But if you are short of cash it maybe a good way to proceed.
After I cancelled mine, a month later they sent me a nice big cheque.
So if you can't wait a month, then cancelling the DD maybe a way forward.

Thank you for replying. Was hoping not to have to contact virgin as no one seems to be able to give you a straight answer when you ask a question0

Hi katies mum,
I was billed as normal during the 30 day notice period, so I suspect you'll still get a full bill for 25 Sept to 24 October. Once your services are disconnected you'll receive another bill with a credit for 30 Sept to 24 October.
I think they do this in case you decide to stay with them.0 -
Thank you Alpha 5, did the credit go back to your bank account? am assuming after that has happened can the DD be cancelled?0

You get sent a cheque, so in theory you can cancel the DD provided the previous bill payment has gone out - though I tend to make sure accounts are definitely closed before cancelling DDs.
Here's a useful video that explains the process: https://youtu.be/KsuszXh2WJo0 -
I wouldn't cancel DD before the switch off, as they could say you are breaching the contract.
If like Sky, they will bill for a full month on September 25th,then make a refund. (I left my BT DD open, when going to Sky and BT refunded via my bank account; better than having the hassle of paying in a cheque).0 -
Don't cancel the Direct Debit until the final payment has been taken.0
