Save yourself the bother, stop using Edge.
  • I use Adguard and it is the best I have come across you can get the premium version free on a trial basis for 6 months if you want at slickdeals dot net.

The MVPS hosts file is reported as working with Windows 10 so will block ads for any browser Edge included.

I wouldn't use that solution myself though as there is no possibility of whitelisting sites and that may be required if some site essential to you won't work using that hosts file.

As already mentioned the best way around lack of support for wanted extensions in Edge is to stop using Edge. It is just a work in progress IMO and probably shouldn't even qualify for beta status.

Just remove said site from the hosts file?

  • I've been using pi-hole for network wide ad blocking for a few months now, it's been absolutely brilliant.

Some sites won't display if they are ad blocked. You'd need to know which ad urls to remove for the specific site and if removed those ads would show everywhere. With ad blockers you can whitelist a site to allow ads through but a hosts file is global.

If you don't need whitelisting then a hosts file is probably better than an ad blocker.
