Egg Moneyworld Mastercard PPI

I had an egg moneyworld Mastercard account which I'd like to check for PPI.

The card was cut up.
The most recent correspondence I have is from 3 May 2011 with a 16 digit customer Reference.

I checked the 16 digit ref No: with Barclays with no results. They told me anything more than 5 years may not be 'on their system' and I should approach their 'data protection team' for a Data Subject Access Request to see if this shows anything.

I'll try this but have any other MSE readers found a more direct route to having old cards checked?
