All fair comment. Re the no new games for 360 point, one unexpected bonus of that is that the final version of Call of duty, Forza, Fifa etc that came out on the console, will forever be the 'most up to date new one'. Because of this, they are not losing popularity after a year once the newer version comes out. I only really play COD and Dark Souls, so my plan does fall down in that I can't play Dark Souls 3 (I am still struggling with the Crowns DLC anyway). Incidentally, my original reason for buying the ps4 was Bloodborne, but because of the lack of shields and the controller, I didn't finish it, which is a shame, because it's a cracking game otherwise.
People will still want the new content and when it's not supported on the older platforms it encourages people to pick up the new console which in turn reduces the existing player populations and further encourages remaining players to move to the new generation as well.
I still think the 360/PS3 consoles are worth considering for those on a budget who don't mind an older, mostly offline games library as they're superb value for money but for up to date or online games I don't think they're a good choice any more.

I went from the 360 to PS4. I don't regret it but I do think the Xbox One is better for media etc. if you're interested in streaming, playing from USB and whatnot; the PS4 is very particular about the files it plays.
For straight up gaming, I think the PS4 pulls ahead but I find both systems are lacking in games when compared to the 360/PS3 at this point in their cycle. Everyone I know with new systems has gone back to playing games on older systems to pass the time between new releases.0 -
A couple of years ago I'd have agreed about the lack of games, I think the PS4 is still not great in that regard but I'd say both have decent catalogues now. I'm surprised you're still seeing so many people on the older consoles unless they're new to those as well as they're no new content out for them that isn't out for the new consoles, the few friends I had on the PS3/360 have been pretty much forced onto the new consoles to get onto new games.

There's nothing stopping you playing older games when you purchase a newer console and the Xbox One supports many of the 360 titles.
As for paying to play online, you get free games each month as well as the online play and the online play substantially increases the playtime - I've never got thousands of hours from an offline only game which makes for good value for money, each have their place and I don't see the point in limiting myself to certain game types or platforms.

While the things I have mentioned are issues for me it is like I said. If it wasn't for money issues I would probably have one by now.0 -
I don't know what the relevance of the online subscription services are here, the Xbox One and PS4 are no different to the older consoles - if you don't want online play, then you can continue with offline play online. Complaining about paying to play online makes no sense - a single year is less than the cost of a single game and a good online game can get thousands of hours so it's far better value for money than buying single offline games.
As for backwards compatibility, you are incorrect - there is no charge for any BC games regardless of whether you have the physical copy of the game or digital.
