    Morning everyone,

Thanks for the thread nmlc, hope you have a better day x

Dry, bright and sunny here, yesterday's weather was glorious so hopefully will have more of the same as it does lift your spirits.
Mum was quite down when we got there yesterday, she has some ongoing problems with her bag and it upsets her so much :( her consultant said that once the temporary bridge was removed things should hopefully improve, fingers crossed that is so. She did brighten up with visitors, one of her best friends came along whose daughter went to school with my brother so lots of reminiscing and talking of happier times.
My DOH and I went for a lovely long walk when we got home last night, took the girls out around the field. We are aware that need to make sure we find time for each other, we are trying to have a bigger meal at lunchtime so finished the day off with a glass of wine and cheese & biscuits.

TA hope the tests are positive for your OH x
Do like Billy Joel Camelot have fun :)
Oh Coxy sorry to hear that your OH was unsuccessful, what a worry for you both, sending gentle hugs x

Have a good day all, take care folks x
  • Morning all
Lainey hugs to you and mum glad she had a nice visitor yesterday
TA fingers crossed for good result
    Cody hugs
Tru what an odd woman !
Dinner tonight will be pork strips we too are freezer diving as have been buying the materials to do the front drive (I have only waited 26 years ) will be spending the day in as awaiting a delivery and need to get the house ready as we are at proms in the park tomorrow and DD1's in laws are coming with us.
Hugs to all those who need them and have a great day x
  • Morning (((((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one. I could do with one myself, things are kicking off good style in the quilting group, a lot of back stabbing going on mainly my back!!

Fine but windy, Friday clean to do I have to clean up 2 weeks muck plus the dust from the bathroom fitting which seems to have settled everywhere despite doors being kept closed. Trouble is I have to face it all again when the heating people come and it will take longer for them to fit everything. I wish we could go away and gome back when its all finished.

Fish for supper tonight with wedges, we have not had fiah and wedges for a while due to OH being incarsarated in the hospital. He is improving slightly each day, he had a shower last night and used the chair, its a huge thing, I push to to the end of the shower whilst I am showering. Apparently he did not use it this morning, just stood. We pay for our water through the rent and pay at full rate so use the water we will.

I did manage to cut the back grass yesterday, crackered when I had finished. DD phoned last night her Dr has put her on HRT, so another one heading for the sweats. I dare not tell her that I still get them!! DD1 is still on them and she is cross because she has put some weight back in and is having a job shifting it. She wants to be slim and sylph like for her daughters wedding Oct 2017. She always was slim but put weight on when she stopped smokiing. DD2 is more like me small and a bit on the plump side (her) me too heavy by far, but having reached 73 I really am not that bothered.

Lainey, if it's any consolation both my parents had to have colostomies in their late seventies and managed fine after the first week or so. The downside for dad was that his stoma made farting noises from time to time which embarassed him.

Coxy, I'm sorry about the job, poor DH it's so hard to be positive in that position, but it doesn't necessarily mean that three people were better than him, so many factors come into play and often it's just down to luck.

Today I will be making a large pork, broccoli and brie lasagne and a veggie one too to feed about 15 people. DS and fiancee are getting married legally in Cambridge tomorrow morning but don't want a fuss as they want their Italy ceremony to be the focus, they see this just as a paper signing exercise. So it will be very brief and just close family (but she has 5 siblings so that immediately adds up.

DD and SiL are coming tonight to attend aformentioned wedding so I want to make sure everythings tidy and that I've made a start on my packing.

We had a plague of large flies of biblical proportions last night in the dining room. I swatted at least 30 of the horrible things and have no idea where they came from - I began to think we must have a dead body somewhere, it was horrible.

    Morning all,

Sorry about the job Coxy xx
Hope things improve for a lot of people soon.
Tru-did you mean she was a stranger or that she was 'strange'? ;) Poor Scampi, fancy going down your drive!

The beef in red wine was a success last night,a bit left that DS2 has requisitioned for tonight so we'll have chicken in some form.My voluntary session at school with all the new littlies was good fun-I was on self portraits :D.Some of the children were very quiet, but one boy said 'where have you come from?' in a surprised tone-I presume because I wasnt there in the morning :rotfl:

DGD had a better day at school yesterday, apparently the boy who was name calling isnt in her class and was doing it to quite a few others,so he's been told about his behaviour by his teacher. She's made a new friend too :)

Seems to be brightening up a bit, thought it was going to chuck it down when I was out dogwalking.I wasnt going to go out today if it rained,I could do with a few bits so I'll make up my mind in a bit.I keep meaning to get the sewing machine out and alter some of my clothes, perhaps today's the day :D

    Bye for now xx

Oh gods, Coxy, that absolutely sucks! :( Doesn't mean there's three "better" people though; just three who were more fortunate on this occasion.

Tru !!!!!!???? I'd have been informing her that if she didn't get off my property this instant I'd regard it as trespass! Poor Scampi! I hope the bonio helped him regain his composure.

I am freezer diving for dinner tonight I am sure I have some fish in there which I rather fancy with some mixed veg and maybe a little bit of mash, all from the freezer :) I am determined to eat the freezer down so I can defrost it and replace the drawers with the new ones I bought earlier this year. They are sitting in my spare room still wrapped in plastic :):):)So my mission for the next month or so is to get some sort of order into the freezer again .lots of stuff I have frozen isn't labeled so it will be an ...interesting menu at least.

Take care everyone and have a good day

  • COXY sorry to hear that you are in a similar position to myself and that your husband was unsuccessful at his interview.
Thank you to everyone for your kind words.

Yesterday I went out to a local pub for lunch. Cheap and cheerful but good value for money. A friend gave me a lift as my left knee had swollen up again. Spent a couple of hours catching up on what people had been up to over school holidays. We are old fashioned in that we both have our own money and then housekeeping money.Home via Waitrose as only needed peppers and tinned pineapple.
Today finally got last of holiday washing done and dried. Went town for ice cream from Aldi and cooking ingredients for daughter for Monday. Date night tonight so may talk about job situation as apparently he can appeal but will probably collapse in front of tv. Lamb and a bottle of wine.
    Hugs.

  • Hair all trimmed and neat in readiness for my trip next week up to Brechin to see my cousins from Australia and canada and the local ones as well.
polished off my ironing today as well so I will be able to have a day off tomorrow and please myself what I do. Probably read and knit with a decent bit of coffee imbibing :). Eldest DD may pop down tomorrow as her OH is at football.Weather beautiful at the moment but rain is forecast.
Nice bit of sea bass for dinner tonight as I went fishing in my freezer :) followed by some basic yoghurt and mixed berry mixture from the freezer as well.
Coxy11 sorry that your OH didn't get the job, but I feel sure there is something better in store as there is always a reason why things turn out differently than you expect Chin up honey and Cafekate as well.
Hope everyone is all back to normality now the children are back at school. I am a great lover of routine, even though its nice to have a holiday its also nice to get back to normal again.

Have a good evening everyone what ever you are doing
    JackieO xx
  • Had cortisoid injection in the shoulder today, bit sore and stiff but hopefully it will improve soon, physio on 22nd and patient transport will collect me and bring me back.

Coxy and Cafekate, so sorry to hear of your predicaments. We have been there on too many occassions to count, especially in the 80's when we had just got a mortgage and had two littlies, how we got through it I will never know.

My few tips are to grow as much veg as you can. Visit an Incredible Edible project and help with the digging and planting, this will keep the DH's occupied and keep their minds off of their woes and they will be able to get free veg.

Grow veg from scraps plenty of advice here:

    http://www.diyncrafts.com/4732/repurpose/25-foods-can-re-grow-kitchen-scraps

I have just harvested 35lbs (15kgs) of red potatoes grown from potato skins because I had put them in the lasagna raised beds, not realising that they would actually grow :o, but win, win:p

Added to that 1.8 kgs of foraged blackberries and other home grown fruit and veg plus two carrier bags full of plums from next door :D

Use your local butcher, he will help you with cheap cuts and advise you on cooking, you can also buy just what you want,in our skint days it was a couple of sausages, kidneys, liver beef bones, chicken carcasses Our butcher does 10lbs of chicken legs for £5.

HTH helps you a little bit xx
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
