Also what will happen if the car isn't repaired to the owners satisfaction?
Sounds better to go through the insurance IMO.
The car owner is fine with not being on the road for a week. He can use my car if needed but he said its OK.
The car owner had picked his usual garage etc and is happy. He got a couple of comparison quotes too.
I just feel really bad is not his fault at all, his car was parked up on the road, he wasn't even in it at the time and he might have to then play increased premiums - at 18 .
I also understand the other side, why pay £900 when the insurance can pay out.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
Negatives:
Both will have to declare it for the next five years.
18 year old may not get insurance upon renewal.
18 year olds insurance may rocket.
Positive:
It will cost the driver £100 excess instead of £900.glentoran99 wrote: »For a non fault accident, both scenarios are unlikely
My brother had his car keyed once. When he renewed his insurance it went up substantially. When he questioned why, as he had protected NCD, the insurers just said "you should see what it will cost without the protected NCD!"I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. I would say the first is unlikely but second is very likely, assuming the insurance company is told.

that's a different scenario, he claimed on his own insurance,0 -

Yes, car driver would not be claiming. Van driver would be - no damage to van at all but a panel damaged on the car.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -

Either don't tell the insurers at all, or claim off the van policy. Don't tell the insurers but not claim, in my experience that can affect premiums worse than a non-fault claim.
You can always play with the comarison sites to see what the difference in price would be come renewal for the various permatations, but make sure you use fake details!0 -
