Benefits & Post Graduate Study

Hi,
I am hoping that someone might be able to offer some advice regarding benefit claim and postgraduate study.
I am currently employed full time, but sadly my employer (like most local authority's) is unable to fund an MA like it has in the past. Therefore, i am looking at taking out the new postgrad loan to do my MA. On the gov.uk website, however, it says that any loan i take out may affect any benefits received.
Me and my partner are low earners and we receive child tax and working tax for example. Does anybody know how or why the loan would affect our claim. The only think i can think is that it is classed as an income. Also some of the loan would cover books, travel and accommodation as the course s delivered through distance learning but compulsory study schools are apart of the course.
Thanks
