Take Sports Direct (more like t***s direct) as an example. Google it for specifics but they are known for terrible working conditions.
Now the main reason jobs like this exist is because people will continue to do them out of fear of being completely unemployed. In this case being on benefits is the better option. If nobody was willing to put up with this !!!! then the employer would not be able to get people to do the work required. The employer would then be forced to improve conditions or simply not be able to operate.
I have been to many jobs and have left of my own accord because they are low paid or just downright awful. Some jobs will always be unpleasant such as working in recycling, or performing autopsies. These jobs need to have sufficient pay to compensate for the unpleasant work. The trouble is people are often so desperate they will do anything for so little. Employers will take advantage of this and creates a knock on effect. We end up with such jobs being more widespread and thus exacerbating the problem. The solution is a basic one, DONT TOLERATE BAD EMPLOYERS.

Sometimes my advice may not be great, but I'm not perfect and I do try my best. Please take this into account.

Easy enough to say, but if you have several mouths to feed, that's not easy on benefits....
Though I do suspect you're trying to be provocative, so maybe I shouldn't have risen to it....!0 -
Maybe you are better suited to being self employed...0

People who perform autopsies usually have medical qualifications and thus are paid commensurate with their knowledge and skills. Rubbish jobs have always existed and in many cases the skill level needed is low so pay is low.
Keep on leaving jobs and your CV becomes unattractive to a prospective employer. Also you get benefit sanctions.
Rather than embarking on what seems to be a futile one man crusade, you should lobby your MP and his colleagues to tighten up employment laws so bad employers are either forced out or toe the line.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

Not trying to be provocative, just stating how things seem to be from my point of view.lincroft1710 wrote: »People who perform autopsies usually have medical qualifications and thus are paid commensurate with their knowledge and skills. Fair point. There have been a few jobs that I havent even bothered placing on my CV tho. Currently I keep doing temporary contracts for a particular company simply because I would earn just as much doing the local min wage jobs that are permanent. The temp job does allow me a few months off per year and then I re-apply which is far from ideal, but is a better compromise than making less money for more stability. So I just do this rather than bear it out with a particular employer on a permanent basis. I would still rather not work at all than work in conditions like has been described of Sports Direct and Apple.
Rather than lobbying MPs, surely the publicity over Sports Direct (among other similar cases in the past) would be obvious enough to those in power to do something to try and change things. The truth is the ones who can change things simply wont, and people like you and me cant.Sometimes my advice may not be great, but I'm not perfect and I do try my best. Start your own business and become the best boss ever?
Someone will still think you're rubbish.Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -

It may be obvious to those in power, but that doesn't mean they will change it. The Brexit vote proved that the people didn't react in the way the government expected.
There are lobbying groups such as Change.org, 38 Degrees and Avaaz who have been very successful with online petitions and lobbying MPs and MEPs as well as leaders of foreign countries. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

Its easy said, but there are some people who feel genuinely "trapped" in crap jobs for various reasons.
And of course, if you throw the towel in, then you dont get your benefits.
I've personally always taken the view that if your employer isnt treated you the way you expect to be then move on - although i'm now a self employed IT contractor so i dont have to worry too much about it.0 -
The rich and the powerful have never given a damn about the jobs workers do, what they are paid, and what the working conditions are. The alternative is NOT to sit on benefits - that is not and will never be "the better option". Improvements in wages, conditions, and the law never came out of the rich and powerful, and nor did they come out of sitting around on your backside claiming benefits. They have always come from the action of a united and powerful workforce. Union bashing is not just something that employers do. Too many employees blame the union for what it cannot do and for being unable to achieve what they want. The union IS the members, and what they won't fight for will never be won. Nor is it won by those who sit on the sidelines never joining a union and still blaming the union for their crappy jobs!
If you want change, make it happen. You won't do that by sitting on benefits or ranting on MSE.0 -
The real problem is the customers -- personally I would be ashamed if anyone saw me stepping into one of their shops, and if the rest of us took a similar viewpoint then they would soon mend their ways. The problem is that too many people want to save money by getting cheap stuff, and cheap stuff means low labour costs...0

Would you wear ill fitting shoes?
I agree in some parts OP.
The consequences of being unhappy or in an unsuitable job when your confidence declines is the worst thing ever. No money can seldomly save that if you are so unlucky. A lot of companies just can't keep good staff I don't think they are bad employers they just get stuck with those who ultimately shape their company culture as much as just another bad boss. I felt quite sorry for the HR lady as she thanked me for being on good behaviour and just putting my head down.
Also I've come to realise as silly as it sounds the place you live can play a part - here in the poor Suffolk people are a little peculiar you get 30 minutes up road to a more affluent Suffolk area it's like somewhere else.
I don't subscribe to the you can have to many jobs - I think it gives someone the edge at times.0
