Free car park charging £100

I parked in a Metrolink car park here in Manchester, all the spaces in the car park where full but there was a space at the end without any markings.

I got a ticket which sucks, but the ticket was for £100 reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days. I thought this was ridiculous as it is a free car park.
Do I have any legs to stand on with this?

This car park is for use of Metrolink Passengers only

A Parking charge will be issues when:
Parking in a disabled bay without displaying a valid disabled badge
Obstructive parking, including parking outside of a marked parking bay or any unauthorised use of a parking space
Parking outside of tram service hours
No taxi parking unless in designated collection/drop off space
Parking on this site whilst not a patron of the Metrolink service

If you park on this land contravening the above parking restrictions you are agreeing to pay a parking charge to the sum of £100.00

(Reducing to £60 if paid within 14 days)

  • Judging from the article below, overnight parking at Metrolink carparks appears to be highly lucrative for Care Parking. Does anyone know if these carparks are covered by Byelaws?

put METROLINK into the forum search box and you will find many other threads about them , some recent , many not , but still relevant

its railway land so byelaws apply , no keeper liability under POFA2012 , so same as many INDIGO train station threads too

appeal using the BPA blue text appeal from the NEWBIES FAQ sticky thread (no changes , not revealing the drivers details)

then use the popla code for a "train station" type popla appeal , similar to recent INDIGO threads, as a keeper appeal , based on

    NOT RELEVANT LAND UNDER POFA2012
    NO KEEPR LIABILITY
NO DRIVER IDENTIFIED and no TRANSFER OF LIABILITY FROM DRIVER TO KEEPER
    NO LANDOWNER CONTRACT
SIGNAGE DOES NOT MEET BPA CoP

    etc

these cases are on hold at popla as they are railway sites (see popla website)

We know. All PPCs do this - have you read the NEWBIES thread yet?

It seemed odd to start a thread as if £100 was unusual, when all threads here every day are the same. That's what the entire forum is about and nine times out of ten it's a 'free' car park.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
