Full process of house moving house - Selling and Buying

Hi all

Please can someone run through the full process of moving house and in what order you do things.

I would expect that the first thing to do would be to have your current house valued to establish what it's worth and what equity you would expect to have.

What comes next? Do you put it up for sale and also start viewing other properties/make an offer or do you secure a mortgage first?

Thanks in advance.

There are whole books on the subject. You want us to re-write a book?

Use google for one of the many online guides, or go to your local library and borrow (free!) a book on the subject.
  • 1. Check your credit reports and make sure there is nothing to stop you getting a mortgage
    2. Value house
    3. Put up for sale
    4. Accept offer
    5. Employ a solicitor
    6. Get mortgage agreement in principle
    7. Look at other houses and put in an offer
    8. Apply for mortgage

You do the things that are most likely to hold up the process first. And that'll depend on you, your finances, and the market(s) you're buying and selling in.

If you think you might struggle to borrow as much as you want to spend, get the mortgage sorted first.
If you think your house will sell quickly, but you'll find it hard to find the right place to move to, then find the purchase before selling.
If you think your house will take a while to sell, but buying should be quick and painless, then find your buyer first.

That is 8 out of the aproximately 103 steps involved. It is nowhere close to being "the full process ".

And it is not necessarily even the correct sequence.

You've patronised the original poster and now you've patronised me.

Do not have a go at people using their time to try and help other people. I bothered to write a quick summary to help this person and you have contributed nothing but arrogance and derision, which seems to be a running theme in most of your 12 daily posts.

And you have not answered the OP's question, which asked for the FULL process. As G_M has rightly pointed out, people write entire books on this subject, so the chances of anyone having the time or enthusiasm to answer the OP's question on a forum are pretty slim, and you certainly haven't done that. I suggest that if you don't like the way one of our most helpful posters writes you take yourself elsewhere.
  • This is useful, thanks.

I consider that the advice I gave
Use google for one of the many online guides, or go to your local library and borrow (free!) a book on the subject.
to have been far more helpful than your own brief and potentially misleading 8 steps, Sheff.

The OP is clearly a novice buyer, and rightly wants to understand the whole process.

No one here is going to provide a full explanation. To attempt would be hugely time-consuming and pointless. Conversely a "quick summary" not only fails to answer the OP's rwquest, but might give the impression its a quick and easy process.

A couple of :rotfl:s thrown in keeps me (and others with a sense of humour) sane.
