  • We had a similar thing with our solicitors.

    In my opinion, I believe it's just to deter you from harassing them every hour of every day with nonsense emails and phone calls, especially if they're not relevant, as they can then start threatening to charge you for the time you've wasted.

    I'd still ask for clarification from the solicitors themselves so you have a better understanding, but we've never been charged extra for any phone calls made or emails sent as they've all been necessary.

    Ignoring disbursements, which will be the same for every quote, you will either be charged

    * a fixed fee for all legal work
    * an hourly rate
    * a fixed fee up to a certain number of hours and then hourly rate
    * a fixed fee for most legal work, with some work being charged as an additional fee

    If you don't understand the quote you've been given, go in to the solicitor's office and ask to have it explained. The response you get to this request will also tell you much about the service you can expect in future if you instruct this firm!
