Amex preferred gold reward card

I see that at the moment the American Express preferred gold reward card has no joining fee . I am wondering if after a year I would be required to pay for further use or if I could cancel. I am looking to use it to get access to airport lounges on a long haul flight .
Any help is appreciated.

You can cancel the card just before the start of your second year, or downgrade to a standard green charge card or even the fee-free blue one.

Its not "at the moment" - the PRG has been fee free the first year for a long time. As stated you can cancel it before the end of the year, or you can even cancel it a month or two into the second year if you forget and and get a pro-rata refund of the fee paid.

Be aware that it not the best of lounge cards they offer (I can't remember the name off the top of my head but its not a Priority Pass any more on this card), so if you're specifically getting this for a certain trip then check that their card covers a lounge at the airport(s) concerned.
