O/S Daily Thursday 8th September 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Lainey - hugs x

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, dry but still very warm and humid. Line of washing did get dry yesterday, hoping I can get some more line dried today.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, he's done his induction week and now doesn't need to attend college again until Tuesday.

Dinner last night was pasta in a mushroom sauce with breaded chicken pieces for the menfolk, I just had the pasta. Tonight I'm not sure but I do have well stocked freezer and cupboards so shall be able to find something, I'll be making something up as I definitely don't want to buy anything.

I'm now on days' off, so will be working my way through the "to do" list, quite a bit on there as usual. I'll be heading into town first thing this morning to visit the building society and bank, then home to crack on with the washing, drying and ironing etc and the rest of the list.

Work yesterday was reasonably busy again, and we had 1 particularly difficult case of a homeless person with children, but due to past actions on their part they were evicted from their home and due to the nature and reasons behind the eviction they didn't qualify for emergency housing, a difficult situation, but unfortunately one brought on by the homeless person themselves, and shouting and getting aggressive with us doesn't help, if you burn your bridges and then do things you shouldn't there are consequences for your actions. It's really difficult at what point do all the agencies say "enough is enough, we've done everything we can to help this person and we can't do anymore" - that's where this case had got to, difficult day. Hoping for my colleagues that they are not subjected to another round of screaming, shouting and aggressive behaviour, we do call the Police if we need to. I'm sure this isn't the end of this case.

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks. Thanks NMLC. What a hot and sticky night it's been. The sky is now all red, is that a good or bad sign?!

Had a good night out with the girlies last night despite not feeling like going. It cheered me up a bit and stopped me worrying for a while.

The 3 DGDs are all still asleep but will be to waken up shortly. Meanwhile I am enjoying a coffee in peace. They are back again tonight after their swimming/diving clubs for tea and another sleepover. We'll take a vote on tea during breakfast but I bet it involves Bolognese in some form or another.

Mr TA had his bloods done yesterday and the results have to be sent on to his consultant in Leeds. So we await another phone call. Such a worry.

Have a good day folks and (((HUGS) to all in need or want of one. Especially LAINEY, BB, HILSTEP & LW and anybody else suffering. Hope the jobseekers find something soon, so many on here just now. Take care all xx

I'm ready to set off to work, my L&M has a cuppa, the fish have been fed, packup's made, washing on the line and DW emptied..
    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning All

Wet and warm again but there does seem to be a bit of a breeze as I found out at 4.20 this morning when the curtain hit me in the face!

Washing on the airer, DW emptied and all the bins have been emptied.

Hugs to you TA, such a worrying time.
Good to hear from you BB, hope you feel better soon.
Lainey, hoping your Mum has had a comfortable night and you have had some much needed rest.
Sorry to hear so many are looking for jobs, it can be such a draining and demoralising time.

Work and hospice today, I'll see how it goes again but I have to say my heart isn't really in it at the moment. Need to pack a bag tonight for my weekend in the big smoke, I need to go to the airport from work so need to be organised (for once!).

Have a good Thursday, take care. XX

    Morning everyone.

Yesterday was fairly stressful (for once) but my reward was a large gin and tonic when I got home. At least the weather was beautiful and the washing I hung out first thing dried well. A good deal of the stress was because of lack of road signage at the new QE hospital and lack of mobile signal on my way back.

Today it's not grey and raining. I only have to take a local'ish woman to the nearby hospital and back. No reason for any stress there.

TA - I'm glad you had a few hours 'out' to enjoy with old friends. My thoughts are with you and MrTA.

    Happy Thursday everyone.

Morning, thanks for starting us off nmlc. How awful having to deal with that situation at work, but some people do themselves no favours X

Hugs to Lainey, TA and Cafekate and anyone else in need. Cafekate I read your post with a heavy heart being in a similar situation ourselves. DH is 43 but has aged during this process plus lost a stone in weight. The physical toll can be immense when worry strikes.

Nothing back yet from the interview on Tuesday. DH saw 4 people over a two hour period. They want someone quickly so I guess it makes sense to see the key people all in one go. He was exhausted! He had to write to the agency with his feedback on how it went. Had to have a tot of whisky first as his heart was pumping out of his chest. Not good. He will go to sign on today and hopes to hear something.

I tried to apply for three school jobs last night but the PC was sending the application forms to google docs which I've no clue about. It's how DH and his fellow scout leaders share information, so I didn't want to upload all my details and personal statement for all to see. Will try again this afternoon as the deadlines are next week. Nothing ventured and all that.

Gym this morning then at the charity for a few hours by myself. On Tuesday I stuck down and put stamps on 550 envelopes then took them to the post office. Doubt I will have anything so exciting today lol!

    Have a good day all

    Morning all,

Another bright day here but they have said not as humid and I really hope so as its just too much at work in this heat.

Had home made fish and chips last night at mums house, rock salmon it was lovely and Evie had some fish and loved it.

Off to work today I like Thursdays its my favourite day client wise, a real group of characters.

Not sure about dinner tonight will go and look in the freezer after this, tonight I have my shopping being delivered have tried Asda for a change so will see what they are like.

Right better get on have good days all xx
  • beautiful bright and sunny day here today, I'm making the most of it by going for a walk around the country park this morning. Its such a glorious morning, I may take a small box to see if I spot any blackberries that have escaped folks beady eyes :).Children all back at school now so a bit more time to do what I want to do for a change :). I also have a small shop to do today the first since I came home from my holiday on 26th August so I am quite pleased.Mostly sad stuff to buy and a few odds and ends fingers crossed it will be under a tenner. End of next week I am off to Scotland for a few days visiting relations. So I am eating from my freezer and cupboards at the moment and only having to buy fresh stuff.
<<hugs to Lainey ,Hilstep and BB >> hope you have all had a good night. Right time to get a wriggle and the kettle on

Have a good day chums whatever you are doing

    Morning everyone,

Thanks for the thread nmlc like others have said some people just don't help themselves, unfortunately it will be her children that suffer.

Bright and sunny here but there is more of a breeze so the stifling heat of the last few days has gone.
Seriously need to catch up on my chores this morning and will spend some time with the dogs, bless them it's all been very confusing for them the last few days with no normal routine, they will be able to spend the morning in the garden.
I spoke to a couple of Mum's friends yesterday and I know one at least will be visiting today, we will go over of course but can always grab a cup of tea to make sure everyone gets quality time with her.

There seems to be a lot of upset and worry in the thread at the moment, thinking positive thoughts for Coxy and Cafekate hope something turns up very soon. Hugs for TA, LW, Hillstep and BB may results be good and poorlies feel better soon.

Have a good day whatever you are up to, take care folks x

Having a quick cuppa before I get dressed and get the bus to slimming club. Middle dd came round last night and I have something to take to the post office for her on the way. The shepherds pie with loads of veg was thoroughly enjoyed and dd was given two portions to take home.

I finally got round to looking at the main section on here re house and contents insurance and changed mine to a company that gets good ratings and saves me over £50 a month so very pleased. I need to phone my present company later and say "on your bike buster" a la tv ad!!!!

Positive vibes and thoughts to hilstep, BB, Lainey and LameWolf and I hope things get better and clearer soon.

    hugs to all.

  • Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one...........

Well how wonderful to have a shower before we went to bed and then another one this morning, because we could. The water is just how I like it so left on the setting just have to put the switch on........bliss.

OH has a hospital appointment this morning, so its a trip into the city. We are calling at DD2's in the way back for lunch and will also call at Lidl for bits and pieces we need. I need to get back into the menu and shopping routine, it went to pot when OH was in hospital. I was so tired when I got back from visiting it was a real chore, but I made myself have a decent meal.

It was fine this morning, but grey clouds scudding over......we are not forecast rain, but you never know.
