car insurance claim after renewal letter
Hi Guys, got a curious one,
car insurance expires in about 3 weeks and already have proof of no claims from old company in renewal offer.
I've applied for new insurance with a different company and provided proof of no claims with the renewal letter.
I've had a car do a small amount of damage to my car by someone else but left no contact details, If I claim from original company i'd lose my no claims but new company have already accepted my no claims.
Is it wrong to not tell new company? can they / would they check old insurer to see if i have completed the full year or would they usually just use the letter i sent?

You don't have to tell them but you'd invalidate your insurance if you didn't, so probably best to let them know.0

your NCB is valid for the number of yrs quoted if you have had no claims at the renewal dateSave a Rachael

Your claim will be recorded on a central database accessible by all insurers. If involved in an accident they usually do a search0

if you claim you have to tell new insurer and for the next 3/5 years aswell..
if you dont claim then you dont need to say a thingSealed pot challenger # 10

Don't claim. (Which is actually A Very Naughty Thing as your "accident" has increased your risk, and your new insurer would very much like to adjust the odds back in their favour by imposing higher charges, or even refusing to insure you)
Although you answered the questions truthfully at the time, making a claim now will materially change your circumstances (that 1 year no-claims will disappear for a start as you didn't manage a whole year without claiming) the 2 point type on your policy documents will definitely require you to inform the insurer of any incident, claim, conviction etc.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

If you have already reported this to your insurer then whether or not you make a claim you must tell your new insurer about the incident and any others you go , to for quotes over the next 3-5 years. (Depending on how long a history they ask for.
If you do decide to claim then your ncd will be reduced, and only lost if you had 2 years or less at the start of your current policy.
The Ncd proof your next insurer has accepted is only provisional until you complete the policy year claim free.
( Were you to make a claim and not tell your next insurer you will be found out, resulting in them being able to void your policy which could be expensive if they find out at the time of a claim!0
