M & S Monthly £10 Gift Card Bonus

I have had my M & S current account since May 2016. My gift balance is currently £120 so I have earnt £20 in bonus payments.

I have paid in £1000 monthly to this account and have 3 Direct Debits attached to the account but no money changing hands, just there and what I would define as active.

Throughout my account history I have only had 1 x Direct Debit come out for £1 to Tesco?

So two questions:

1) Is active actually money moving out per month twice or is active, an active agreement between my other bank and M & S?

2) With answer to question 1. How could I have earned £20 bonus either way? The bonus is either too much or has been underpaid

Comments

  • If you switched in May 2016, the first month you could have earned £10 onto the card would have been June, paid by 15 July. The second month when you could have earned £10 would have been July, paid by 15 August. So that makes £20. The next payment will be due by 15 September and relates to account activity in august.
  • So active in the terms of M&S is 2 DD on the account and a requirement to move money with them is NOT required to qualify for bonus as long as you pay in the required £1k per month

Active direct debits do not require any money to be paid out but If no payment is taken for c12 months then it becomes dormant and no longer active. M and S missed paying me my £10 in June so called up and was just simple system error according to them so they just added it to my card. So if balance ever looks too low then worth checking that they've not missed a payment.
