PCN Too late to appeal, what next?

Hi all. I received a letter from a debt collector last week to say I had a PCN from G24 and that they received an old address from DVLA and as they did not hear from me the debt collection company are now collecting the debt on their behalf (having got my updated address already themselves). The PCN relates to May and as this is the first time I've heard of it I have had no opportunity to pay the original amount (not sure I have grounds to appeal despite the original fine being absurd for such a short overstay 40mins). I contacted G24 and was told I would have to appeal online, did this and it was rejected straight away as the time to appeal has lapsed. The company won't budge on this point when I have spoken to them despite the fact that my address has not changed for sometime. I am not even sure why DVLA gave them my previous address (I called DVLA to check the address they held for me and they confirmed they hold my current address?). As a result I now have a £160 fee to pay and no where to turn. Any advice on what I can do next?

I see I can appeal via IAS but this will cost me an additional £15 with no guarantee of success and the prospect of paying out even more money is not very attractive right now.

IGNORE G24 and the debt collectors for 6 years

come back if you get an LBC from G24 or a solicitor , or an MCOL from Northampton

read the NEWBIES sticky thread, especially post #4

Do not under any circumstances even consider paying £15 for an "out-of-time" IAS appeal.

AS I understand it, it introduces a contractual element which is impossible to avoid and you are almost certain to lose, as IAS is not independent and is a kangaroo court.

Wait for further advice from others, but the options would seem to be either ignore, or write to the DC telling them that this is the first you know of this, the debt is denied and please refer back to your client.

The DC themselves cannot take you to court (who are they?).

Bit strange them using an old address. have u ever had a pcn by them in the past and they've used you 'file' address instead of coughing up £2.50 to the Dvla ?

You can always contact the Dvla to see if anyone has requested your details and to show what details were passed on. Might be worth it to see if the ppc are playing silly !!!!!!s !

edit - if they were given the correct address and sent to the wrong'un then the notice to keeper was not be deemed served, so a very good starting point on your behalf.
  • I have not had a parking ticket with them before so I have no idea where the mistake occurred, only that DVLA did make a mistake but I will contact them again and ask if and what information was provided to see if that helps me out at all.
  • Thank you all for your responses... I have been searching endlessly and although I saw threads and advice to ignore, I also saw others saying not to ignore and just wanted to pay the original fine to get it over and done with.... Ironically they won't even let me do that so I guess I will have to ignore.

The debt company is DRP which I see are well known to you all. I also contacted them upon receiving the letter and they since sent me footage of my car entering and exiting the car park which I requested. I since responded to them and advised that I will be liaising with G24 directly. I also advised them while on the phone that I was in no financial position to pay the fine of £160.

    Thanks again for your responses

G24 are also toothless and have zero court claims on record:

    http://www.bmpa.eu/companydata/G24.html

Ignore them and DRP. Sit tight. DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT try the 'IAS' awful £15 thing which forces you to pay (you'd lose the appeal and pay £15 for the privilege of this dross):

Come back if you get court papers or a solicitor's letter ('Zenith' is not a Solicitor, it's still DRP using another name). You can see how unlikely that is but keep all letters in a file anyway for 6 years - then build a bonfire for them!
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • Did you update your address with the DVLA for BOTH your Driving Licence and your V5 "logbook"?

They have to be updated separately.
  • I just spoke to the DVLA and that was exactly the problem... I had updated one and not the other which I hadn't realised was required until now.

Seems mad that a little mistake can end up costing me so much money...in the mean time I've written to what I can find as being the contact details for the MD of staples and asked if they can cancel the fine, not sure I'll get anywhere with that. Other than this I'll be following the NEWBIES thread guidance
  • Staples being the retailer whose car park I used
