Have purchased a shower enclosure, there are ce markings on the packaging but nothing on the glass....I presumed there should be but have found conflicting answers on the Internet are there any sellers/installers in the know that can give a definitive answer. Thanks

Why do you feel the need for CE marking on a shower enclosure? Not all products must bear the CE marking. Only those product categories subject to specific directives that provide for the CE marking are required to be CE marked.
My Matki shower enclosure is marked with the European manufacturing standard EN12150-1. http://www.en-standard.eu/csn-en-12150-1-glass-in-building-thermally-toughened-soda-lime-silicate-safety-glass-part-1-definition-and-description-1/"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Because the screen shattered in the plumbers hands causing injuries that needed stitches, I watched them carry it in and the screen made no contact with anything other than their hands so I'm trying to understand why.....my first route I guess is to figure out if the glass is what it says it is hence why I want to know if there should be markings on the glass. Thanks0

The marking (EN12150-1) should have been on the glass. After shattering this may no longer be visible."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Shower screens are toughened glass just like windows in a house where subject to the risk of damage. This glass shatters into pieces instead of sharp spikes.
It sounds like your shower screen has done what it should have done unless you are saying it was not toughened glass that was supplied. Look on the remaining undamaged door, or fixed pieces to see if the toughened symbol, and manufacturer logo, is etched in the corner of the piece.0 -
Even if it was plain glass, it would not shatter without cause."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Sounds like a installation error to meI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
CE doesn't necessarily mean certified English. The courts have been in loggerheads with China since 2008 about the China export logo which is suspicious similarly to our kite Mark. There are images on Google to help you check.0

FYI, CE marking does not mean Certified EnglishThe letters "CE" are the abbreviation of French phrase "Conformite Europeene" which literally means "European Conformity"."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Hi I've checked the rest of the glass and no markings anywhere. Installation error? It never got near to being installed?
The company, after asking for a picture of the broken glass have offered a full refund and are coming to collect the remaining free of charge......Now I'm concerned if it is supposed to be marked that there is something not quite right about the glass. I'd hate for this to happen to someone else, it was quite frightening to watch, came down on them like a guillotine0 -

The glass should be marked, you should have specified toughened glass and you should have checked this when unpacking the screen.
The upside, or positive, is it broke before anyone was inside the screen having a shower, hence you have received a very lucky, and timely, let off.
It sounds like you purchased a dodgy product, and a likely scenario is it was cheap, claimed to be made in China, and purchased via the internet.
In the interests of fellow consumers everywhere I believe you should answer/counter my suggestions and also name the manufacturer, name the product and name the supplier.0
