Bad Good Energy

I just had a call telling me that I owe Good Energy around £100 from an account I closed when I moved house just over two years ago. I supplied them with meter readings but their system at the time meant that they were unable to collect direct debit payments after an account was closed. Do I have to pay this bill, or is it the company's liability for having a ridiculously poor system in place? Any advice appreciated, thanks

Yes they have six years to claim, anything else is good will.

As I assume Good Energy are not signed up to the 1 year back billing code as they are not a big company then I would assume they would only give you good will if you are still with them.
  • Turn the situation around. How would you feel if they owed you £100 but they never paid it for whatever reasons? Would you still want the money back?
    Honest? Probably......sort of.

If it was me, I'd no doubt WANT it back but if it was the result of a stupid mistake that I'd made over 2 years ago, and only just spotted, I'd realise I might not get it.

OP, according to this, Good Energy ARE a member of Energy UK. My understanding is that means they ARE signed up to the back billing code.

There's a list of "scenarios" under which back billing applies. Worth having a look through to see whether your case applies:
