Have to find work and turn down work

Heya,

I have not been on benefits for long but so far I've had to turn down about 6 jobs so far. My problem is that I need some financial support from my last JSA payment to the works pay. I am not asking for much just what I need to buy food, electric and travel to work £15 a week should be fine.

I have tried CAB, MP, TURN2US, DWP, Council and other various charitable organizations. No luck so far, there must be some kinda service that helps people in this situation right?

I found this job and signed the contract but its another pay monthly job, I really can't go so long without any money what so ever, whilst working full time. I am sick of turning down work and this job is 100% perfect for me, I want to do this job, I signed the contract but I can't even afford the travel to the job unless I can get a lil support.

No family, can't rely on friends to support me.

Also every time I have to turn down work (I have been accepted for) drives me insane and I am sure my mental health is at risk because I am now so angry. I am so so angry! I feel I have no patience for anyone. I hate the "it is you who is refusing to work" from the DWP when in reality its "I'm doing everything I can to get a job, I just need a lil support"

Have you asked any of them if they do an advance?

My employer offers one mid month for those just starting.
  • I cannot see how would cut it here for travel, food and electric but surely you would get benefits until you sign off then if that is the case and you can stretch it to £15.00 a week then by rights you can manage a few here and then ask the employer about a small advance.

You would need to be employed first and show up on time every day but if it were me I would have brief chat to them about this prior to starting, If I had an employee in a similar situation and they did the job well I would have no issue at all in giving a advance to them.

    Credit Card or over draft?

If £15 a week is enough to support you - get saving!

JSA is about £70 a week, so even if you could save £20 of this it would mean in 3 - 4 weeks you would have enough to tide you over to payday

Also remember if you sign off a Monday when you start work, you will still be due the previous weeks payment of about £70

Well as I mentioned I haven't been on JSA for long. I am not blaming benefits for this but it is the situation, my rent is £575 a month. Most of my money goes on the rent and to move out I need to really get about £750 behind me, which is very hard to do whilst on benefits. I only just got this job the other day and expected to start Tuesday, I used most of my money paying my rent. I have about £30 left and really can't spread that across the month because I need to get the ferry to work (I can't swim). The job itself is self-employed based, I have emailed them asking for something in advanced but they can't do that, I emailed that to the DWP.

I don't really think its fair to expect someone to save money for that month as how many jobs do you know that give you enough time to save money before working? Most jobs its a week max from the point of interview to the first day.

Ya and the moment I start work that also will be stopped. Also its only £260 a month, I was working and getting £1400 a month so £575 wasnt that bad for me. My plan was to quickly find a job asap so I don't have to move, I was just really expecting some level of support for the month waiting for first pay. I honestly do not mind paying back the money, my credit score is very low because I was kicked out at a young age and banks just kept giving me money. I was stupid then which has affected now, I have gone to my bank but its a catch 22, I need to show them I am getting paid into that account for them to increase my over-draft.

Can't you show the letter of acceptance and confirmation of your starting date to your bank?

Yes! Yes! I can! :T Hah I did honestly go to my bank with this and they did turn me down. I have just got a random call back from them and booked an appointment on Friday. They asked to see my contract so I suspect this might be my lucky break.

Awwww man I know why so many people are choosing not to work nowadays, they do make it so hard to get out of the system.

Just another question quick. I ask this to the DWP but they just started screaming THATS FRAUD!

If say the banks decline my request for an over draft how much trouble do you think I could be in if I do this, my housing benefits are paid directly to me, if I just stop going to the DWP and still get housing benefits could I transfer that to another account (I never use), take what I need out of it and when I get my first pay go to the council with the cash and pay them back what they paid me in that month.

Housing benefit/ LHA isn't contingent on being in receipt if JSA.
