In some states of America, apparently you can get pretty much any plate you want. I saw a photo recently of a rather nice top-of-the-range Mercedes convertible, with the plate BJ4MERC. Sounds reasonable!

One of my old cars had the regisitration MF??NWA
I looked at it and was instantly reminded of a certain 1980s rap group that chose to abbreviate their name for some reason, never forgot the reg though!

  • As others have pointed out, it's a big deal in your head only. I live in Birmingham and have seen many cars with the BJ prefix. Did I laugh at them? Nope.
  • Passed a car today with the last three letters FUD.

I was brought up in Leeds, which had the UM suffix. Dad had a DUM and a WUM. I spent my teenage years looking for BUM, but without success. Apparently, it was never issued.
