Moved/Bought first house in UK, got a quote for Plastering/Painting house.

Options
Having just moved from across the ocean where its relatively easy to patch drywall and sand it then call in painters Im a little new to the world of plastering.

I got a quote to plaster up any holes/cracks and smooth out the walls then paint the whole house for £2400, he called it redecorating.

This includes all white paint and i would have to only provide the colour for the walls. The walls are in decent shape but there are holes from the previous owner hanging things up and curtains along with cracks in various places/around windows/doors.

The house is a 3 bedroom, 2 medium rooms and one very small, stairs, living room/dining room (small).

Just wondering if this is a fair quote, or if I should look around some more? Thanks for any help in advance.

Yes includes stripping wallpaper which is only on two accent walls and painting the ceiling white (old style arctex [sp?])

Unless you're loaded and hate decorating, what most Brits would do is get a steamer and get the wallpaper off with that.

Then, for plastering, it probably doesn't need replastering at all - you can buy tubs (smaller than a bag of sugar) that's ready made up and if it's just a few tiny cracks/holes here and there then just wander along aimlessly with an old credit card/knife and the pot and fill them.... and sand back if you weren't careful when you did the filling.

    Then paint.

Replastering is not a job many people ever do in their lifetimes.

Re Artex - the current thing is for people to get that removed/covered up. So if you're determined to spend money then it might be better spent getting rid of the Artex than replastering walls that don't need it.

white paint is more or less free, £15 for a 10l tub..
you probably don't need plastering, but just strip whatever you got on the walls/ sand the walls, and smear all over the wall this thing

including all the holes, after its dry, sand it again, and go over again filling out any other places that needs doing, than.. take the cheapo white paint and paint everything in base coat.. look for any imperfections and fill out any remaining gaps, sand again the spots till perfection and now apply the final coat of paint in your desired colour.
You are looking at around £70-£80 in materials/ white paint to do all your house and make the walls perfect again this way.. It took me about 5days (each day about 5-7 hours) to do 4 rooms and a coridor in our house from start to finish! A professional could probably do it much faster..

although said ''professional'' would probably say that such a technique is a scam and he would do it the ''proper'' way by replastering everything and waste your £
