  • I can recommend the following:

I moved up to Edinburgh last year and when my wife and I came up to check the place out we stayed at the Abercorn Guest House. Very friendly owners happy to recommend places to go and see and reasonably priced. Only downside is that you are on the edge of the city so you would need to get a bus into the centre.

Alternatively at the other end of the scale if you want to really impress the girlfriend then check out the best located hotel in Edinburgh.

This is unfortunately one of the most expensive as well. However the woman I work with managed to get a good deal by doing the following. Find out on-line what the best price for a double room at the Scotsman hotel.

    http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g186525-d192438-Reviews-Scotsman_Hotel-Edinburgh_Scotland.html

Then ring up the Balmoral and ask them what their best price is. When my friend was doing it she got quoted £245 best price for one night. By mentioning the Scotsman Hotel and that they could do £125 the Balmoral matched the price. She said it was a lovely place to stay and is right in the centre.

If you fancy looking for something outside of Edinburgh check out the reviews on TripAdvisor as usually user reveiws recommend some good places.

    Best wishes

  • If you want a recommendation for somewhere to take her out for dinner then if you can afford it and want to go to a place that everyone knows then the Witchery on the Royal Mile is very popular. (Although a lot of locals say it isn't as good as it once was).

Or somewhere that I really like is Stac Polly which is at Dublin Street.

Lovely Scottish food but the difference with Stac Polly is you pay for quality of the food more so than its reputation.

If you are really on a budget then lunch at Chocolate Soup is certainly a chocolate lovers treat. And as the name suggests they serve things of the chocolate description. Hot Chocolate, Sundays, Brownies etc etc.

Okay enough talk about chocolate thats making me hungry now...
