Strothers lane carpark

Options
Hope someone can help here. I got a parking ticket from smart parking for allegedly being in strothers lane carpark in Inverness for 30mins
I ignored the first letter but have received another one with the header "notice of intended court action"
I've been in contact now and they tell me that the "no liability for registered keepers in Scotland"doesn't work as they use a sheriff court in Glasgow and there is some fangled law where I would be forced to tell who was driving... Is this the case? And £160 seems a bit over the top for thirty mins.
Ten minutes of that half hour I was trying to get parked as it was full and when I did a gentleman walking back from the ticket machine told me it wasn't working. Should of checked for myself I guess.

Many Thanks in advance for any advice.

Who is 'they' and please tell us you didn't telephone them? They are LYING. I detest liars.

  • "they" being DRP the debt recovery company being used by smart parking.
Unfortunately I did phone them. Really wished I hadn't now.
Got a funny feeling I'm screwed here? £10 a minute is way over top and has to be illegal, surely!

Why do you think you are screwed, when Smart have NEVER tried a small claim and would not choose your little old case in Scotland to start!

I can only assume you are new to forums and do not yet know how to search and learn from other threads exactly the same where it has already been said a hundred times every month for about ten years:

If you pay you are a mug (sorry, 'tis true!). Especially mugged if you are in Scotland.

Even MORE mugged if you pay £160 to a stupid 'debt collection' call centre who are unregulated, toothless and simply there to lie and get your money any old how! Stop taking the silly rubbish so seriously!

Collect the letters and laugh at them like we do (like I did when I had some). Stop phoning the idiots.

REALLY! - I'm almost tempted to ask you to phone them back and get this claim recorded verbatim.

Because Scottish courts can take a pretty dim view of powerless collectors taking their name in vain.

However, you should really ignore the bams forthwith but I am going to be in Inverness a couple of times in the next few days, so maybe I will dally a bit longer than needed, just to find out for myself. ;)

DESPERATE SMART making up the law as they go on ???

A question to ask the sheriff about then if it got that far

This why Smart are simply called "not so Smart"

Was it in a red scary font too?

You are being conned and seem to be falling for it.

For goodness sake stop phoning bullies that are lying to you, there are a lot of people in England would like to be in your position where the Scottish system seems to be on top of their scam tactics!
