Faulty laptop

I bought my daughter a laptop 6 days ago from Argos, yesterday she switched it on and the screen was fuzzy, she knocked it off and started it again but still a fuzzy screen, she took it back this afternoon, and the man who spoke to her switched the laptop on and saw the fault, he was going to give her another until a lady came over and said no it would be sent away to be repaired, I'm sure she should have been given a new laptop she has only had it 6 days, not happy awaiting a reply from customer services, wish I had gone with her because I would not have been happy

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives the consumer up to thirty days to inspect goods and ensure they conform to contract.marydalton wrote: »I bought my daughter a laptop 6 days ago from Argos, yesterday she switched it on and the screen was fuzzy, she knocked it off and started it again but still a fuzzy screen, she took it back this afternoon, and the man who spoke to her switched the laptop on and saw the fault, he was going to give her another until a lady came over and said no it would be sent away to be repaired, I'm sure she should have been given a new laptop she has only had it 6 days, not happy awaiting a reply from customer services, wish I had gone with her because I would not have been happy
You are clearly within that time limit, so you have the right to reject the thing for a full refund of all monies paid.
As an aside, did you make this purchase on line or in a store?
Did you use a credit card for the purchase?0 -
Bought in store, and used my Argos card on the interest free purchase pay in 6 months0

Happened to my wife's laptop, she has a habit of just putting in flat on the floor. I suspect it was stood upon.
In your case I think all you could do is get an independent report and hope they disagree with the retailer. Screens for laptops can be quite cheap and easy to replace.0 -
Thanks

A "fuzzy" screen does sound like a cracked screen to me and if there is a clearly visible impact mark (pressure point) then regardless of what your daughter tells you something has caused the damage since purchase. If it was damaged at manufacture she wouldn't have been able to set it up initially as the screen would have shown the damage the first time it was opened and turned on.0

You could try taking it to a small pc repair company instead and see how much it would be to repair. Certainly avoid PCworld/Currys, absolute rip-off repair service, they ask for £60 just to take the Laptop/computer off you.0
