What can I do?

Hi, thank you to anyone who reads and replies to this. In April I visited a supermarket and parked up. I didn't realise the shopping limit was 2 hours and I stayed 3 mostly due to having a little baby who needed feeding which takes a long time, so after shopping, visiting the cafe then going over to the mother care nearby to use their feeding room and changing facilities I was too long. I received a parkingeye charge which I appealed and they rejected then I didn't realise about poplar but everyone I spoke to just said ignore it, they go away eventually. They are now sending letters of taking me to court. I appealed again stating I would be happy to pay then for their loss of income from me using a space too long but their charge was unfair. I am still just receiving threats of court if I don't pay now. What can I do? Shall I see it through to court stage? What likelihood will I have of losing? 😥

Start by carefully reading the Newbies Sticky at the top of this forum. The advice in there should enable you to see this-off pretty easily.

A strong complaint to the store about their failing obligations under the Equality Act unless they get it cancelled would be my first suggested approach.
  • I did read but I couldn't see about what to be done at this later stage. So if I go into the morrisons and speak to the manager they could cancel the charge?

They could - Especially when you remind them that feeding is covered by the Equality Act and now you have informed them, Morrisons would be held jointly liable in any further action you may decide to take - which could land them with a substantial fine and having to pay unlimited compensation.
  • Thank you. Is it best to do this in person or write a letter. Would I send it to general customer services or direct to the manager of the store involved?

Personally I would approach the store manager directly/in person first and then the email the CEO if that failed but the link above is also a very valid way to approach things.

Although the initial approach would be verbal, if they agree to cancel, I would insist on written confirmation from the store and that they get PE to write as well to confirm.

speak to the manager of the store involved, preferably in person, with proof of shopping receipts and redacted bank statements showing proof of patronage , not just on the day but over a period of time , including the store card they gave out (match and more ?)

if this fails to secure a cancellation (in writing , not just verbally) , then complain to david potts directly at the Head Office

its not as if they havent done it before, they do know about these issues and dont want to penalise genuine shoppers

my local Morrissons has no time restrictions at all

    Wow!

It took 25 posts on that thread and all that was needed was one email to

    donotreply@morrisonsplc.co.uk

...as posted by Umkomaas there just seven posts in.

    SAME HERE IN THIS CASE.

One complaint email and it will be cancelled by next week, which the OP would have found just by searching for the single word 'Morrisons' on this forum. Why do people not just complain to retailers all the time, every time, about this scam?
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • Thank you to those that posted. I went to see the manager of the store today. He said he will get it cancelled. Unless it has already been taken to court then they may struggle but he seemed to genuinely want to stop it.

If you don't get a cancellation from the PPC in a few days, check with the manager what he has done.

It ain't over till the fat PPC grudgingly issues a cancellation.
