Can anyone please tell me if there is a considerable difference in cost for rendering (plaster with white paint) or a building it as brick wall (1930s style)?

As a DIYer all I can say is that cement blockwork with render would take me half the time of doing proper brickwork, and the materials would cost less too. So I'd expect the cost to be around half.
But a proper builder can give a more accurate figure.
Unless it's a very large wall I'd go with what you think will blend in and look best.0 -
Thank you dominonman. Yes need more proper assessment of cost. Will check with a builder.0

There isn't a big difference. Blockwork is cheaper and faster but by the time you have rendered and decorated, the differential vanishes and you've employed three people instead of one.
Then you take into account the ongoing maintenance of decorating render and the potential for cracking down the line, the difference is negligible.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

A lot depends on the brick too - if you can use the cheapest facing brick you can find the costs won't be too different, but if you need a nice brick or want to match in with existing then the brick can become more costlyThis is a system account and does not represent a real person.
