Has Nationwide actually upgraded anyone from FlexBasic?

I know someone recently asked this on here but the reason I ask is:

Running a flex basic account and waiting for an upgrade - is it not better to just apply for a full flex account every so often?

It's not quite clear cut

You could apply but each time you will be fully credit checked, where as an ograde whilst probably using a CRA feed will not be hard credit checked so will not effect any other credit application.

Their website implies that they periodically check and upgrade your account (if eligible) with notice.

You could go into a branch or call to see if they can expedite the process.

Why are you so keen to upgrade?
Do you need the European travel cover?

Yeah the travel insurance would be beneficial to me, and also the contact less card seems to take forever to authorise because it's an online only card.

In branch today the woman said 'you can't upgrade a basic account '. I told her you could and she didn't look too pleased

What she probably meant is that it isn't an option to upgrade a FlexBasic in the same way customers can upgrade a FlexAccount or a FlexDirect on request - which is a guaranteed upgrade any time the account holder decides to request it. In the case of a FlexBasic, it will be down to Nationwide whether the account holder will be offered a change (they don't call it an upgrade) to a FlexAccount, as is detailed in the T&Cs

  • I think they don't, so closed mine.

I think just applying for a FlexAccount is the way forward. I don't believe anyone has said they've been upgraded yet. We're now 9 months in. Well past the 6 months.

Will be interested to see who is upgraded in December (12 months). Their online banking includes a query for something along the lines of '12 month upgrade'. They have insisted it's 6 months as per T&Cs in my dealings with them, but refuse to answer why the 12 month upgrade is an option on online banking, as opposed to '6 month upgrade' or merely 'upgrade'!!

Also another user on here said he was denied a full Flex account, but given a credit card. As it's a credit card I want, that's what I'll be applying for first rather than the account anyway!!!

Contactless can be simply slow as it depends on the equipment / setup used.

I've got an online debit card on a secondary account and the difference is negligible. Lots of retailers actually go online for all transactions.

Good luck with the upgrade anyway.
