Egg timer on Paypal payment

Bought something from an eBay seller yesterday for £60 (plus postage) and paid with Paypal once the auction ended.

The payment is showing as an egg timer rather than a pound sign, and in Paypal it says that the seller has not accepted yet.

Not had this before! It is a member who has no feedback but registered for 18 months.

Google tells me that perhaps they have the wrong email address linked. Would this be correct? Or could it be something else? I tried sending the seller a message to verify their email, but it will not let me send a message that contains an email address.

What next?? Do I just send them a generic message asking them to check?

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

    Usually reasons are a mis-typed e-mail address...ie myaddress@gmail.con rather than gmail.com etc

Another reason is that the reciever has not opted into accepting credit card payments - after the first 3 or 4 payments then the reciever needs to opt in to accept card payments from then on.

If its an old abandoned address, they may still be able to add that address you paid to via Paypal.

All this really is for the seller to sort, not you.

It is still showing a timer, but the item arrived! I left them +ve feedback.

No idea if they got the money or not, as no reply to my message!

    Confused, but item fab!

I had someone send out a 300 quid item last month with the egg timer.

I had to contact them when it arrived with screenshots of my Paypal telling them they needed to claim it. Luckily they sorted it soon after.

If the egg timer is showing, it will still be unclaimed so they won't have been paid.
  • I have just started selling on ebay. The first few items I sold showed an egg timer for several weeks even though the buyer paid straight away. This is because ebay keep the money for several weeks before passing it on to new sellers as they are not yet trusted. The transactions and positive feedback and everything was completed within a few days but ebay still kept my money for ages! It was quite frustrating because they were high value items and I had to post them without having received the money.

Thats how ebay works now and you had the choice of not using them but would you have got the same amount of money advertising it elsewhere?

I sent the seller my phone number, so got them to log into their paypal and claim the money, so it has has all now been sorted.

I have also bought something else from someone with just two feedback, which was bought last Sunday and still not arrived 8 days later. I hope they are also not waiting for their money to be released before sending! Will open an INR tomorrow if they do not arrive in the post, as there was no response to my nice message sent on Saturday afternoon. Delivery was supposed to be Thurs/Fri.

The latter item is for my 5 year old, so I know he will ask me after school if it arrived!

I am starting to think that EBay is not making this 100% clear to new sellers, as I guess there is so much to get your head round!
