Well, they may have been uneconomical to repair but they are by no means certain to have been badly damaged or poorly repaired and may have been recovered undamaged after settlement of a theft claim for instance.

Maybe, but how is the purchaser, especially a new driver is going to know which out of the CAT C and CAT D cars available are safe to buy
  • I passed my test nearly 4 years ago & my first car was a Hyundai i10. Absolutely brilliant little car & I'd definitely recommend if you're going to be mainly driving around town etc. I only sold it as I needed something much larger when I started my own business. Cheap as chips to run generally but as has already been mentioned, small engines don't always equal cheap insurance - the first year's premium was brutal & when I swapped my little 12 plate i10 (1.2) for a diesel 1.9 van-based car, insurance went down significantly as it's a much less likely vehicle to be racing round in :)
  • A Skoda Fabia would be a good choice.

    My first car cost £80!

    My current car cost £130.

Another vote for the i10. Tiny, manouverable and a doddle to park but seems weirdly spacious inside.
