I wonder if someone can tell me if this is a reasonable quote:
Replastering and skimming Reception hall 11' 6"x5'9", & the landing £400
Replastering and skimming living room 14'5"X11'4" £300
Replastering and skimming dining room 13'8"X11'4" £300
Removing woodchip papers and painting all above £1500
I am happy with this builder who is doing very good job.

That doesn't sound too bad. I've just had my hall, stairs and landing done - replastering and damp proofing to 1m high downstairs plus skimming the whole lot.
Took one guy 3.5 days and cost approx £600, inc materials.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
very reasonable for painting ,0

Ceiling in Reception hall the landing only.
I keep saying this but this builder is very good and apart from enjoying his work (its obvious) he really cares for his customer. No small job is a problem for him. Infact most of the people in our street have used this company.0 -
Even if it was a bit over the top (and I'm not saying it is coz I haven't a clue!), but if they are that good and you are that pleased, it doesn't really matter does it?? Obviously you don't want to pay over the odds, but if you are happy with everything, then don't worry too much. Its nice to see there are decent builders/tradesman out there. We are having work done at the moment and I have to say the builders, plasterers, electricians...have all been excellent. You look at these "Rogue Trader" programmes and worry who you are going to get sometimes!! We went on recommendation, and it sounds like you have too if most of your street have used the same guys. Good luck! x0

If you ever need a tradesmen that you can trust and been vetted for quality and price check out the fmb website (federation of master builders). They vet tradesmen and check the work quality of previous jobs and are totally independent. I am vetted by them so customers know they get a good quality job at a fair price. They doall trades onthere web site. john0

Hi John...sorry - I know you are a plasterer hence this one directed at you! Our plasterer has finished now and we are waiting for coving to come. As it has dried out there are a couple of areas that look like mini-crazy paving! Is this just the plaster drying out...should I be concerned? It is only on a couple of small areas. When I paint on my diluted emulsion will it be ok, or should I be concerned that it might flake off when the final coats of emulsion have gone on? (Thanks for other advise about not using a sealant...funnily enough our plasterer said the same thing yesterday...).

as a general rule of thumb I use £25 per square metre of floor space for plastering and painting a room. So those prices seem about right, once you have convereted to squar3e metres.0
