Well, we do know that the school your son is attending do allow them as well as the school that mesj20's son and Mumof3sj's son goes to so maybe it's quite a common thing.
The school my 11 year old nephew is starting tomorrow are very clear that school shoes must be 'proper' shoes, not plimsolls.0 -

Oh! That's really interesting, suki.
You've found another user (Momof3boyz) whose son's school allow plimsolls as school shoes.
I wonder if these schools are in the same catchment area. Or they may even be the same school.
And the list of other school items seem to be similar - and a similar price too.0 -
My sons school is the only secondary school in my area there is a private one aswell so no i don't think There near the school my son is starting at.0

When I passed the 11+ over 60 years ago, the uniform for the grammar school cost in total £60. My mother was a single parent, a working-mother, who didn't know where to turn. In the end, I think there was a family whip-round amongst the various aunts and uncles to help out. That was in 1955 (or thereabouts) and I have no idea now how much her weekly wage was but I suspect it can't have been much more than £10 per week. No credit cards then and people got paid in cash, not even any bank accounts.
Now, THAT was tough.0 -

And on H.U.K.D, pumps as s school shoes and a Pikachu outfit.Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.0

I must admit I think it's a bit odd that the OP has asked what other people have paid after she's bought her son's uniform.
It would have made more sense if she'd listed what items she needed before she bought them and asked for opinions on where she could get the best value for what she needed to buy.

Don't tell them that Aldi now have trousers at much reduced prices or they'll be all upset. (No plimsolls,though).0
