Giveaway started: 6 September 2016

Breaking Law is a rare self-help legal book as it is written by a judge or more accurately a recently retired Judge, Stephen Gold. It's a huge tomb with many template letters to help people self litigate from consumer rights to divorce. And indeed it has a foreword by our own Martin Lewis.

To scan through the book (or buy it if you want it and don't get a giveaway copy) it's available to buy from Bath Publishing or Amazon, and others for £19.99

What to do

To try for a copy just reply to this (click on 'post reply') and say:

"Don't break the law"

To do this you need to join the Forum. If you haven't already, when you click reply you'll be taken through the process. It's free, of course.

APPEAL: Please ONLY reply to this thread if you will check your private messages next week.

150 names are being picked and there are 40 books up for grabs. This is because sadly not everyone gets in touch, so doing it this way speeds things up. Be sure to get in quickly!

Also, please DON'T email in, as your name won't be counted, or include your contact details in this thread, as, for your own safety, we don't allow personal details on the public forum. Your post may be deleted if this is the case.

This giveaway appears in the weekly email (if you don't already get the email go to www.moneysavingexpert.com/tips) and will close at 4pm on Friday 16 September, so please get your posts in before then.

The giveaway has a strict one entry per household policy and entries can be deemed ineligible without any explanation or notification.

About the book and author

"Breaking Law is written by a former judge. It’s a unique, inside guide to the law, which is irreverent, entertaining and bulges with advice on what the law can do for you in countless situations.

So whether you've been overcharged at a supermarket, overlooked in a relative’s will, sold duff goods, sued for repossession by a mortgage lender or landlord or threatened to be left penniless after a divorce, you can find help here.

You’ll discover rights you never knew existed, how to avoid getting involved in a court case in the first place and how to cope with proceedings should they be started, whether you are bringing them or defending them.

Template letters and court documents are all included. For example, if you want to protect yourself before setting up home or marrying your partner, cohabitation and pre-nuptial agreements are at your service. There’s even a template agreement on what happens to the pets should the relationship break down.

And to keep it lively, the author also takes you through some of his own legal tussles so you can get a glimpse of his own inimitable style when pursuing and protecting his rights and those of his clients (the Krays included!).

The book is for you if you are forced to go it alone without a lawyer, but should you need representation, you can find out how to get it before handing over any money.

All of which means that, if you thought there was no way you would ever be able to get your case through court, this book may prove you wrong.

Author Stephen Gold has many years’ experience both as a recently retired civil and family judge and, before that, as a practising solicitor."

The book also includes a foreword by our very own Martin Lewis.

How will the winners be chosen?

150 people will be picked at random (we've a special little computer programme to do it) and a private message will be sent out to each of the winning users requesting their username (case sensitive), full name and address details (there'll be an email to send this information to as we don't want it done via private message).

The FIRST 40 people to get back to us will get a book.

When will I get it?

It will be sent out once all 40 winners have provided their names and addresses, so it may take several weeks between the giveaway's end and the actual receipt.

    1. This prize draw is run by MoneySavingExpert.com (the “Promoter”) and open to residents of the UK aged 18 years or over, except employees of the MoneySuperMarket.com Group (including MoneySavingExpert.com), or family members of such employees. In order to take part in the prize draw, entrants must have a MoneySavingExpert.com Forum account, which is enabled for posting (those who wish to enter but who do not presently have a MoneySavingExpert.com Forum account can register for one, free of charge, at forums.moneysavingexpert.com/register.php).

    2. Details of how to enter form part of the terms and conditions. It is a condition of entry that all rules are accepted as final and that the entrant agrees to abide by these rules. The decision of the Promoter is final and no correspondence will be entered into. The Promoter reserves the right to modify the Promotion at any time without prior notice.

    3. The prize draw will be run on a designated MoneySavingExpert.com Forum thread (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=5521100) (the “Designated Thread”). In order to enter, users will need to be registered to the Forum and post on the Designated Thread as per the instructions detailed in the opening post of the Designated Thread.

    4. The prize draw will open at 4pm(UK-time) on Tuesday 6 September 2016, and will end at 4pm (UK-time) on Friday 16 September 2016 (the “Closing Date”).

    5. The prize is a copy of Breaking Law published by Bath Publishing (the “Prize”). There are 40 Prizes to give away.

    6. All entrants will be placed into a randomiser, of which 150 will be selected and contacted by the Promoter via the MoneySavingExpert.com Forum’s Private Message facility.

    7. Potential winners will be required to respond to the designated email address set out in the Private Message within seven days of being contacted. The first 40 recipients of the Private Message to contact the email address with their name, Forum username and postal address will be the winners and receive the Prize. If incomplete information is submitted, the Promoter reserves the right to award that Prize to an alternative winner in accordance with these terms and conditions (i.e. to the 41st person to email their details to the designated email address.).

    8. Prizes will be dispatched to winners directly from Bath Publishing. By submitting your details to MoneySavingExpert.com via the designated email address you consent to us passing your information onto Bath Publishing to enable it to deliver the Prize to you. 10. A maximum of one Prize is available per household. The Promoter reserves the right to withhold a Prize or Prizes if, in its fair judgement, it appears that the same person or same household has ‘won’ more than one Prize, and/or to require reasonable proof from the winner(s) in question that they are not the same person and/or do not share a household.

    11. Late, incomplete, corrupt entries, or entries sent through agencies and third parties, will not be accepted. No responsibility can be accepted for lost entries. The Promoter in particular cannot accept any responsibility for delayed entries due to device or internet connectivity issues.

    12. These prize draw terms and conditions incorporate our Full Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy.
