Been made redundant w/o consulting

Options
I have been made redundant unexpectedly on the 31/08 and would like some advice.

I have only been employed by the company for 1 year and 2 months so understand what I am entitled to with regards to notice however I would like some advice to the way I was made redundant.

On the 31st I carried out a full days work and was then called into the office at 1530 where I was given a letter telling me due to financial difficulties I am being let go with one weeks notice starting the following day.
I was asked to hand over my phone, laptop and car straight away. I refused to hand over the car and agreed to return the following morning which I did.
The company then went onto say I was only entitled to 1 days holiday and no allowance for my car which I fought as I was entitled to 3 days holiday and the car until the end of my contract. The company agreed this in the end.

However I don't feel I was consulted about this redundancy how I should of been. Am I right in thinking I should of had a meeting before and then been made redundant? or can it just happen straight away like this?
Given the 2 year rule is there actually anything I can do about this to help my situation or am I going to have to accept this?

The company states the redunadancy is due to a reduction in business, we had bonus's paid in July no problem.
The company have had me carrying out other roles other than what I was employed to do so could not fully fulfil my role which I think is the cause.

Any help would be great.

Thanks.

Less than 2 years employment means you can be dismissed at any time, but you should be given notice in line with your contract or pay in lieu of notice. You are not entitled to a consultation. There is actually no need to make you "redundant".

Read your contract very carefully about notice periods and any other pertinent clauses.

You have less than two years employment. Therefore there is nothing you can do, and the report is not obliged to do anything other than give you notice.

Did they say redundant as part of the dismissal notice?

If not you are not redundant.

As others have said, your length of employment means that your employers don't have to do anything other than give you notice to terminate your employment. They may have chosen to tell you that this was due to financial difficulties but they had no obligation to consult.
