Energy Bill - I pay but not under my name.

Hey,

I'm looking into credit ratings and I see that having different types of credit are good; for example not just credit cards but energy bills.

I'm living in my mums flat; the energy account is under her name but I pay it with direct debit from my account. So I assume I won't get credited for this?

THanks

Correct, and a potentially good thing too, if you want to avoid your ability to obtain credit being trashed through no fault of your own.

Energy suppliers cause massive problems to the great British public by malicious credit reporting, so your tactic should be to avoid such accounts if possible. Stick to real credit arrangements such as credit cards to build up a good credit profile.

    Hi

For utility bills to show on your credit reference file the account would need to be in your name.

    Good Advice - Thank you.

I'm asking because I want to try and get a mortgage for the house in the near future, so I'm looking at my credibility options. I'll take your advice and keep the account in my mums name and just continue to pay it using my credit card and pay that off in full via my direct debit.
