Car insurance for twins

Somebody

My 17 year old twins will soon need car insurance but they will have joint use of one car. My understanding from conversations with a broker is that only one person can be named as the main driver so the other twin will be nominated as an additional named driver.
Has anyone else had to face this situation before?
What happens if the named twin needs to make a claim even though he is seen to be an equal "main driver".
Any advice would be welcome.
Thanks

Somebody, a slightly unique situation. Reality suggests that one of your twins will more naturally be the main user (maybe he or she learns quicker or enjoys it more or needs it more than the other). Even if the split of use is 55/45 car insurance is always rated initially on the main user who should also be the policyholder. No problem with the claim scenario you describe. Best course of action is to get quotes then talk to the insurer/broker in question and explain your concerns.0

If they're using it about the same, it shouldn't be an issue. They should have similar risk profiles anyway. The insurers are looking for fronting, where someone with a lower risk profile fraudulently puts themselves as main driver to lower the premium, when someone with a higher risk is the main driver of the car.
As long as they are using it about the same then it shouldn't matter. Just let the insurance know that's the case and update them if there's any significant divergence.0 -
just remember that only the policy holder will earn the no claims. The named
driver wont.
Although some may offer a discount.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

I say in theory because insurers seem to make their premium costs up as they please :rotfl:0 -

You could change the maindriver each year -as the NCD lasts for 2 years with most insurers
However, this means the insureance will be dearer as less NCD
Twin 1 - main driver year 1 - No NCD
Twin 2 - main driver year 2 - No NCD (whereas twin 1 will have 1 year NCD)0 -
Are they identical twins?
If so just insure one of them and they can take turns driving.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -

The policyholder earns NCD not the main driver. So they would need to alternate who the policyholder is. The policyholder does not have to be the main driver. All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0 -

My husband and I are main and second, second and main driver on two policies as we use the two cars equally. In this way we each have our no claims record.
This was done a number of years ago (1980s?) when legislation changed. Before that my husband was first driver for all cars.0 -

My wife and I have two cars which over a week we probably drive equally (one is bigger and can also hold our two children).
You've got to be careful as when I sold and bought a new car I ended up putting myself as main driver, when it should have been my wife. Had to ring up and cancel the insurance and get it with my wife as first driver (to keep NCDs).
It's sometimes hard to remember who is first driver on what car!As of 24/11/2020
