Wireless thermostat / timer

Hi. We have a British Gas RC5 thermostat / timer which we've used to control the boiler for years. We arrived home after a few days away to find that it's completely dead. I changed the batteries and it is still dead, so I am assuming it's no good. (That's about the limit of my technical ability on this).
The timing is really rotten as we're moving house in less than 2 weeks so I need to replace it so that the buyers don't have a dead thermostat when they arrive. We have boiler cover but it only covers emergencies, not this type of thing. I have a couple of questions:
1. What's the cheapest option?
2. Is it usually self-explanatory how to fit this type of thing or does it need to be done by a professional?
Thanks

Does yours have a 'reset' button? i.e. a small hole in which you insert a small screwdriver.0 -
I asked the man who fitted our boiler etc what would happen should there be a battery failure, power cut or we needed to have the power switched off during a kitchen refit and he said that I would need to override the current 'kick in' setting .ie Adjust the temperature reading upwards, until the boiler worked (then put it back down to the required temperature).0
