Council fine in a free car park

Hi guys

My luck with parking doesn't get much better..

i have just received a fine from the council for parking in a car park on a saturday which said free parking.. and riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight at the bottom of the sign it says 'if parking for free must display a ticket'

i didnt display one and i received a fine then re read the sign and saw it after

you get 3 hours free and the its 5£ for the day..

i was there for about an hour and a half.. im gonna try and get out of saying something along the lines of 'its a free car park and if i was there all day i would only have to pay £5 so why are you fining me £60 bla bla bla'

any advice on what to say or write??

post your queries with scans of the pcn over on pepipoo forums in the council ticket section where the experts may help you

How annoying!! Although I can see why they'd want you to display a ticket - there'd be a time on it which would show a parking attendant how long you've been there. Otherwise, people could park all day for free and just say they'd been there less than 3 hours.

Definitely complain though, as if there aren't clear signs to say this then it could (and probably does) catch a lot of people out.
