Removing a debt relief order from my credit file?

Options
Hi there,

I had a Debt Relief Order in September 2010, from which I was discharged in September 2011. Having researched this, I found that the DRO should be removed from my credit file "6 years from the commencement of the arrangement". My question is - is the 2010 date the 'commencement' of the arrangement, and if so, should the DRO disappear from my credit file shortly (September 2016) or do I need to 'do' something to get it taken off..? Anyone had any experience of this please?

Many thanks

    Hi

September 2010 is the commencement and you don’t need to do anything to remove the DRO. Your credit file shows 6 years of your credit history on a rolling basis, so it should come off by itself.

  • Great news, thanks James :)
  • Hmm, so another question please..

Is there a date per month when the major credit reference agencies update your report? If the DRO is discharged on the 28th, how long must I wait until it disappears from my credit file?

It might take another month to update and for you to actually be able to see that the DRO has come off. I don’t know if there are specific dates that the credit agencies update their reports but someone else may know.
