This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all
Off to work in a sec, the fish have been fed and hubby has a cuppa.
I've made my packups, tuna salad for lunch, peanut butter sandwich for breakfast, I cannot face anything to eat this early. I've made ham sandwiches for my L&M, he will make his own breakfast when he gets up, he on the late shift today, 2 - 10.
I dread to think what sort of chaos awaits, first at DD's and then at work.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
Hi Hester, thanks for starting us off. Hope your day isn't as hectic as you fear x
Up with the larks again this morning but I've managed to be quite productive already with my second load of washing just gone in and I am showered and dressed. I'm sat having a cuppa with my hubby before he goes to work and then the girls will appear shortly for breakfast.
I have my therapy today but I will see how it goes before I decide if I want to continue. My tummy is churning just thinking about it but if it was easy it probably wouldn't be worth doing it.
When I get back I am going to make a lasagne from scratch for dinner tonight. I put loads of veg in it so the peeling and chopping will keep me busy for a while. I will make a salad to go with it too just to be absolutely sure we are having our 5 a day.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning everyone
Thanks to everyone for your good wishes x Still feeling a bit low but hoping that the normal routine and my mind being more occupied will help.
HH - thanks for starting us off, it's hard to believe that the school's are now going back after the summer break, the weeks/months just seem to be flying past!
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now up getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, but will wake him shortly, as he needs to get ready for college.
Now light, dry underfoot, but very overcast and cloudy, I'll be putting a line of washing out on the line before I leave for work in the hope it will get dry before I get home.
Lunch yesterday was a delicious meal at our favourite restaurant, it was the busiest I've seen it for ages, our food was excellent as always. I didn't eat anything else for the rest of the day, we only had 2 courses as we didn't have any room for dessert, the plates weren't piled here but lovely food of a good portion size. Dinner tonight will be a roast chicken, new pots, carrots, broc and gravy - nothing too complicated on a work night!
We called in on DH's grandfather on the way back from lunch yesterday, and he is really struggling after the death of our ill person it was one of his direct blood relation. This was triggered by another part of the family from away arriving at his house back end of last week, saying we've just called in as we were passing on our way to **** house (ill person) - he didnt' know what to say to them, as we all thought they knew as some of their family were at the funeral. He unfortunately then had to go through it all again, as they were devastated and embarassed they didn't know - it's knocked him back.
I'm back to work today, I have no idea if we will be busy/not busy - the schools here all go back this week at some time, so we'll see. Today will be either manic or dead.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Not a bad morning here but I think it's to be a bit showery. I'm not really bothered as there isn't any washing to do and I'm at work all day with the dentist at 5pm. Yesterday's sunshine has set me up for a few days!
Good luck to all those going back to school/work this week, I always feel that while you are all settling in we've done it up here and are back into some sort of routine.
Packed lunch of salad made, will have more lo curry for tea. Ironing up to date and the floors were all hoovered and mopped and bathrooms cleaned yesterday before I went out.
Have a good week. Take care. XX0 -
Morning all,
Wet and miserable here, kind of matches my moodI had a terrible nights sleep and ended up kicking OH out into the spare room as he was snoring so loud ! I could still hear him through two shut doors but I eventually got off to sleep about three ish, today will be a long day !
Good luck to all those starting back or starting at school today this is the first year for at least 17 years that dd is not going back to some kind of education, feels weird !
Back to work for me today, dinner tonight will be filled pasta with salad and garlic bread nice and easy after working. I need to have a sweep round and put the washing away too.
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Morning all, heave rain when I got up, at 5, now it has stopped.
I am on a course all day, the other side of the city so OH will drop me at the bus stop, then there will be 2 buses and a walk. Must look at the map, as the area is not one I know well. I think they will provide lunch, well they normally do if we are at a conference centre.
Still got a very achy face from this shard of bone, may see if paracetamol takes the edge off it.
Bins emptied, I heard the lorry coming round. Dread to think how much mess will be left, last week's seagulls spread rubbish everywhere and I'm not dressed so not ideal to go out and anyway, not really got time.
Nmlc, hope you feel more positive today, and Hester, hope you aren't too frantic as your day does sound a bit jam-packed.
I had better hey a wiggle on. Hope you all have a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good Morning chums light sprinkle of rain this morning, but I don't think it will last ,'barely gets the cobbles wet' as my old Mum would say
Booked our next years holiday last night, back to our beloved Isle of Wight again. We have to book early as we need a 4 bedroomed place for us all that will accept two dogs and has sufficient parking for two cars and hopefully wi-fi.We are limited at times as larger places go very quickly. Our holiday house that we came back from at the end of August this year has gone alreadybut we found another one in a tiny hamlet called Billingham near Shorwell which looks good and I paid the deposit last night so all's sorted for next August already. The boys are pleased as there is also a large games room attached which caught their interest.
Today I have turning up of new school trousers for DGS Mikey to do, they get turned up in September and usually let down again by January.DGS Jack goes back into 6th form tomorrow and the other two are back on Wednesday.Seems to have flown by this years summer holidays .
Came home with left over meat and veg from dinner last night, so no real cooking for me tonight as I only have to make some gravy and reheat the left overs
Hope you all have a good Monday and things go well whatever you are doing
Dumpling you are doing well keep going honey think how well you have come on over the past few months ,we are all behind you cheering you one xx
Take care chums

Morning folks and thanks for the start off HESTER. Hope your day doesn't turn out as manic as you fear.
Drab and dingy here but set to improve I think. I had a better night's sleep (including sleeping all through "Victoria") so I think last week and all the to-ing and fro-ing, followed by the tossy turny nights, finally caught up with me. Slept right through until 6.00 which, for me, is a miracle!
We have the 3 DGDs to look after all day. They were at their dad's all weekend as DD was working, so he is dropping them off on his way to work. The middle one (7) decided on Friday that she wanted to resume trying knitting again today. She grasped it quite well initially so hope she remembers! If it stays fine I'm sure their bikes will be out too and they'll want to ride up to the farm and Moorgate as ussual. (With me and Grandad running behind!) The two youngest are back at school tomorrow, with the eldest starting on Wednesday.
I'll get some of the yummy sausage out to defrost for lunch I think. They are always guaranteed to eat them up. There's still some of yesterday's steak casserole and dumplings left to warm up for an easy tea once DD has collected the girls.
The ironing basket is empty!! I finally cleared the backlog yesterday and then did the small shop that I intended, sticking religiously to my list.
Have a good day folks and (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed for you and yours. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all, thanks for the thread Hester X
Drizzling here and a bit chilly. DD and DS2 are just getting ready for the school coach. DS1 is in the shower ready to go to the building site. They didn't say they definitely wanted him so I'm hoping the early start isn't in vain
Had a bit of a flat day yesterday at ILs house. Everyone talking about places they are going for dinner and films they've seen. We don't have a huge social life but have had to cancel any future socialising for the time being due to no funds. It's my birthday at the weekend and we are going to a NT place with our years membership so entrance is free. I emailed some good friends yesterday to cancel a meet up in London on 24th. Would've cost at least £100 for the day so can't justify it.
At the church today and hoping to finish by 1pm. I have got to food shop later as we have no bread and virtually no milk. I applied for the school job last night - they will probably be inundated with applicants but nothing ventured.............
Dinner tonight is Diet Coke chicken. Beds will be stripped shortly but may need to use the tumble dryer unless the weather perks up.
Have a good day all.

Morning :hello:
I hope your appointment goes well dumpling xx
Fingers crossed coxy xx
I also get bored on family visits, the chat always turns to fabulous holidays, clothes, meals out, etc. and it just doesn't interest me. A couple of cousins are like me and we end up sat together after searching for wine (it's not always there, which is a shame, lol) and talking about the latest mad thing our kids/pets/friends did
Looks like I'm paying for my peaceful weekend – I didn't realise mr tru had booked today off work
I'm going to sort my wardrobe and drawers today. I have every intention of keeping it all tidy each time I sort but I always fail, lol. I'll go through the drawers under the bed too, I want to wash my jumpers and find a space for them in the wardrobe. I've just sprayed the hob, this time yesterday it was nice and clean but this morning it looks like a food bomb has exploded on it. Not sure which lovely person made this mess but it wasn't me. Gggrrrrr.
