Waiting to hear back about my Barclay card?

Yesterday i applied online for a Barclaycard, because my wife have one, and we are hoping to get a mortgage with this bank, early next year.

Anyway, it said that they need to make further checks, before making a decision. And told me to wait for up to another five working days, which could take me up to friday next week. I am hoping that it will be a positive decision, because i have kept my finances in good order for the last three or four years, and this is reflected in my credit reports, which the bank will be able to access.

But i am just worried that a spanner could fall out of the woodwork, which could scupper my whole plan. I am a home maker, who take care of my daughter, whilst my wife works full time. And I have also recently completed a BA (hons) degree. So i guess i will have to wait til friday, before giving them a ring if i haven't heard by then. This is quite exciting isn't it?!?:)

It took them almost 10 days to approve me, They did in the end but only gave an £800 credit limit. I phoned once for an update but rather rudely told they will get back to me when they are ready.

It's not really rude if they've said they will let you know when they've done their checks and then you chase them - it's fairly obvious they hadn't yet done the checks - no?

No, it is not exciting. They will give you a decision when they have made one, and there is nothing you can do to speed up the process: ringing them would be a complete waste of time and effort.

Of course, your wife could request an additional card for you on her account, if she wished to do so, although that would not do anything to help build your credit record.

It was more the tone of the voice etc, If it says to wait 5 days and then you phone them for an update or a new timescale and you just get told it's done when it's done and then they put the phone down then I don't think it's the best customer service but that person might just be on an off day.

Keep an eye on the email you used while applying. In my case i had an email next day saying welcome to barclaycard, and telling me my credit limit, and online access details. The card and pin followed about after a week.
  • Perhaps they are busy dealing with a simple matter I presented them with. Seems to involved endless people at their end. They don't seem very efficient or joined up. Always friendly, though. Politely ineffectual.

    Good luck.
