Working tax credit and housing benefit

Hi there i was wondering if any of you guys could give me some info if anyone knows about working tax and housing benefit. To cut a long story short i have been on income support for the last ten years due to post traumatic stress, i have the disability premium with my income support. I live with my mum and dad and i have just been offered a flat from the council, my boyfriend is thinking of moving in with me and claiming working tax credit for me and him, according to the do i qualify section on the inland revenue he is entitled to working tax as i am classed as disabled as i get the disabilty premium on income support. However would we receive any rebate on our rent?, some people have said to us we would be entitled to a rebate but council doesn't know how this would work out but i want to make sure if we do move in together then we would be able to cope financially. I was just curious to know if any of you guys have ever came across this situation and could give me any pointers, cheers :j

    jellytot,

Whether you get Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Benefit depends on your boyfriend's income. If you are moving in with him and he is earning enough you may lose your Income Support entitlement (but not any DLA that you might be receiving because that is not income related). I would advise that you go to your local Citizens Advice Bureau and they can tell you exactly what you'd be able to claim in your new situation taking everything into account.

Hi there thanks for your reply, i telephoned the benefit enquiry line and they said going on my boyfriends income i would lose all my enitilement to income support, he earns close to 15000 a year before deductions and if he claimed working tax credits for me then he would receive 3400 for me as i am classed as disabled, i do not receive dla but i have tried to claim it in the past but they woman on the benefit line says that i should try and claim it as it is not means tested so i will give that a try, with regards to housing benefit or council tax i think we would not get a rebate going on what my boyfreind earns. but cheers for your reply
