Wow... that's wonderful! Well done you!
You are encouraging me to get running after missing about 5 days recently. I wish the rain would let up when I actually have time to run... then I wish I'd got my act together and started while I had the chance.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
The sun's been out and I think I’m solar powered (Onebrokelady)

Well done fire-wannabe.
Cherryfudge, just get out in the rain its actually quite nice in the summer when its not cold.
Once you complete the C25K you can go out and do fun things.... I actually went out last night after work to go and do an off road run just so that I could run through the puddles and mud, it was great fun.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
Well, I'm still stuck on week one, but I am getting better - managed to do very nearly all the running on my last two outings. Plus even the fact that I had two good runs in a row is an improvement, usually I have a good run then a bad one. And we had a week off due to all the rain (we run on grass and squelching isn't fun)0

That sounds brilliant!
I was running the other day watching a big black cloud that was clearly raining ahead of me, and quite looking forward to the rain as it was hot, but it never came my way.
I've been stuck at the 5K level for a while but broke through it in the last week and got 2 personal bests. Fantastic feeling. I'm now looking at the local parkrun, working on the C210K app (slowly) with a (very long-term) view to the Great North Run, which half my family is in this year.
To think I started 6 months ago just to lose weight to get into a dress... :rotfl:
By the way, it's odd how we get stuck at certain stages, isn't it? Why do some weeks take more doing than others? I don't know, but I realised I wasn't running as often, and now I've put that right, the results have magically appeared again. :rotfl:I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Run 1 week 1 done today... let's see if I stick with it. Going with a weekly group to try and get me to stick with it, but still need to do two extra runs by myself.Start mortgage date: August 2022; Start mortgage amount: £240,999; Original mortgage free date: August 2056

I am next on my week 6 day 1. My left ankle is hurting a bit today. I hope my running shoes are good enough. Any advice here on reasonably priced running shoes? Ones I have are fairly new. I am and adult male.0

No advice as to which shoes, other than find some with a decent amount of cushioning (if running on the road) or a decent amount of grip (if offroad).
Most important thing with running shoes is how you feel in them. Make sure you are really comfy with them as if they rub they will only get worse.
If your shoes are fairly new then they shouldn't be causing pain.
Personally the ones that fit my feet best are Saucony (for road) and Inov8 (for trail)“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
N00b here, nice to meet you all and see that some of you are completing this, which is reassuring :T
I'm not a fitness n00b, I'm actually fit in general. The reason I'm doing this is because I'm a netminder in one of the national ice hockey leagues and I struggle a bit with short bursts of activity so I figure that stamina will help. Some teams that we come up against are poor, so I could be the most unfit person on the ice and it wouldn't matter, but others are better than us and I need the fitness and stamina to stay alert and put up a good fight.
I did W1R1 yesterday, today my ankles ache which I expect. I hope to do W1R2 tomorrow. I hope. My only issue is I've been taking indometacin for a severe neurological disorder (I've now stopped) and it's also had the beautiful side effect of dealing with the horrible hip problem I have (trochanteric burstitis), but I can't take indometacin long term because it destroys your stomach, so I'm dreading the hip pain coming back with the running. We'll see how long it takes to come back I guess.
Jog on, everyone - in the nicest way possible :rotfl:0 -
Hi Honourless Weasel (I have to say - what a fantastic name!
) - just wanted to say I hope you enjoy your 5K as much as I did with mine! Is there a physio or coach in the ice hockey team that could give you some advice on protecting your hips?
I don't know any more about your condition than I've learned from a quick google, but can you use anti-inflammatories? How about natural anti inflammatories such as turmeric?
A friend who is a sports coach advised me to take a break from running maybe for a week each month and do different activity to allow the body to recover. The C25K approach seems to indicate taking a day or so between runs for the same reason. My friend also advised me to have some protein (just a little is enough) within 20 minutes of running because the body will then use it for repair and construction of the muscles I've just used.
I've gone from being a non-runner at the beginning of this year to doing over 5K regularly and for the joy of it, and I've not had injuries so maybe the advice is working and I offer it for anyone who's interested in case it might help you too.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. Oops, meant to reply before this!
It would be great if we had a physio, but we're one of those teams where we do everything ourselves, fund everything, get everywhere of our own volition so we can't afford a physio, we don't even have shirt sponsors.
The Indometacin for my head is the strongest anti-inflammatory going and it's helping with the hips too, I just can't take it long term, boo!!
A day in between is definitely helping. Made a mistake of walking four miles on one of those days and ended up with painful shins, but the running hasn't given me shin splints so far, and the ankles needed that time off to recover. Going up to a minute and a half wasn't bad either.
Have a question for everyone here really, prompted by a friend who asked me, how do you deal with running in 'inclement' weather? Rain, cold that kind of thing? You can't be a 'fair weather golfer' and just bail on it because 'it's a bit wet out' especially as the weather's about to change as that will kill all of your progress. It's not just about keeping warm and dry either, weather can affect the chances of getting injured too.0
