Replacing router with BT Home Hub 5

Options
My pretty rubbish technicolor (?????) router i got free with John Lewis broadband keeps dropping out, and last weekend their technical helpline reloaded remotely the newest software to it,and its been better but not prefect. I bought a new BT Home Hub 5 from eBay as a back-up (it was cheap and unused and I need internet access for work from home)

If, or should I say when I need to swap them over, how hard will it be please? I'm a serious technophobe but in laymans terms if possible please

Is Jonh Lewis a resold Plusnet broadband service? You may be able to get it to work if so. I'm on Plusnet and am using a Home hub 5 instead of the 2 box modem + router set up from Plusnet.

I am on Plusnet, did not have any idea that JohnLewis bband resold PN services. However, when I had recent problems with PN, they offered to send me an upgraded router. I had already bought an all-singing, all-dancing TP-Link job, but this may be an option for you. I know about the krappy 'Tecnicolor' router, I originally had one from PN, it is safely in its box in the shed! They are apprently French-made, absloutely basic things. If you ask for another router from JL broadband, they will probably charge for P&P. Ask for a GIGABIT model.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

Thanks people, I been with JLewis for nearly 2 years now so assumed maybe JL were taken over my PlusNet, as until the router update last weekend my router name was 'John-Lewis 123456' and now its 'PlusNet 123456'

Im pretty useless with technology espically computers and internet settings so will take a look at your link Flashg67, failing that I'll buy one from amazon i think, they have loads with good reviews for under £40
  • Plusnet now offer a BT Hub 5 equivilent, I got one sent to me last week! It works really well!

The JL website says John Lewis Broadband is provided by Plusnet plc. so I think Plusnet do.
