it's an interesting one haha
i don't hold HSBC at the moment, but do have some Standard Chartered.
HSBC are paying 6.6% at the moment, the 5th highest div - on current stats.
they are the largest market cap company in the FTSE100
i do think they are a decent shout - for those looking for an individual company to back.
Future direction of dividends is uncertain.
Add Shell and BP to that list as well.0 -
What fund do you recommend for Siberian farmland?
Not yet. However, Peter the Great, Tsar of all the Russians, is supposed to have named Siberia after the Sibo people, who still has an offshoot in Xinjiang, western edge of China. So they are like the aboriginals in Australia, with some ancestral territorial claim.
If I could get financial backing from Warren Buffett and Bill Gates, with the peaceful intention of producing food to feed the world, we could just lease Siberia from Putin. We could send food east to feed China, west to feed Russia and Europe, using the Trans-Siberian rail road. It's like a Buy To Let, the food produced could pay the rent and produce a profit, so the deal actually makes money.
If not, we get the Chinese to back a hostile take over, using the Sibo people as a pretext. It's a toss up whether America will interfere. Hmm, help the Chinese, or help the Russians? The Americans don't want to do either. Centuries ago, the territories were under Chinese influence anyway, it's only because Peter the Great started sending Cossacks east, that it became Russian. Occupy Crimea? Two can play the same game.0
