are friendly societies worth considering?

Mrs Caronoel and I have maxed out on ISAs and pensions, and are looking for somewhere new to invest. I was considering one of the friendly society tax efficient products. Are any of te any good?

no dunston, but i had a little pension with Teachers Assurance which has been absorbed into LV, with whom i've had a bond for 15 years or so, and they gave us all £250 cheques for loss of membership rights. which was nice.
a one pint windfall is all i ask:beer:
LV are a different scale of beast to most Friendly Societies, so tend to think of them differently.
